Mixing tires on the track

Any thoughts on running different brand tires on the front and back on the track?

If you are in a 12 or 24 hour endurance race..the most important thing is to keep going..so in a pinch you can throw on what you got. But for you and the 335, I would not do this...X on front..and Y on rear.

I've done it - because I corded a single tire. I was running race rubber and put on street rubber up front. Replaced both front tires.

If you HAVE to do it, put the less sticky stuff up front, because understeering is far preferable to unpredictable oversteer.

My lap times went down about 1.5 seconds and while it wasn't ideal in any way, it was a good learning experience. Being back on street rubber is humbling because your mistakes are not masked by the r-comp grip. The fronts, brand new before the weekend, were nearly toast after two days. The rears were barely worn.

Not ideal but works in a pinch.

My friend ran an AWD TT at the autoX with R comps up front and street tires in the rear. It made for an interesting run...

Tried that once. Put the old track tires on the rear and the new ones on the front. Hit a cold spot on the track and the rear end danced while the fronts held tight. The results were most unhappy. Should have had the softies in front.

Yeah no joke. That's why I put the less sticky stuff up front. If I'm going to start dancing around, I'd rather understeer than have my tail lights try to become my headlights.

Well, my question centers around the fact that I run 245 on all 4 corners. I've cupped a couple of my hankooks but have 2 good one's left. I wanted to try out another brand, street tires also, and around the same UTQ. I just wanted to rotate the new tires in the back and run the good hankooks up front till they're done, then go same brand on all 4. Just trying to find a way to not have to toss out 2 good tires.
