No Limited diff
After having owned an e36 M3 and a Audi S4, I am concerned that the rear of the 335 may be a problem on the few track days that I may do. Can someone throw in their two cents or experiences? TIA

yeah..its a biotch... I can really feel it...coming from S4s myself. You can get the aftermarket one...but it is pretty complicated...cost will be about $4K installed minimum..if you go with Dinan or Turner Motorsport stuff..the price goes up

...but is it actually a situation that you get a lack of traction or actual wheelspin on the light side tire? Can you still get around the track and out of corners with the added power these cars can produce? Yeah the limited diffs I have priced are very pricey.

I can really feel the lack of it at turn #3 and #4 at Laguna Seca...and at turn #3, turn #4, turn #7 and turn #11 at Infineon..I think I even have pics of my inside right rear tire smoking. I am losing about 2 seconds a lap without it...at Laguna and Infineon.

It's going to depend on the track really, but it's not like you wont be able to go and still have fun without it. If your a beginner you probably wont even notice (especially if you leave DTC on) if you're more advanced it's not like it will be undriveable but you'll definitely lose some time.

The E90 is exactly the same as the E92 in this respect...

My solution to this was to buy a limited slip. It was very expensive because the 08 has the ring gear to the welded to the diff so there is no way to reuse the ring and pinion. I was lucky and found a complete replacement diff with a clutch style limited slip installed.

I really feel it at the low-mid speed corners on my local tracks. If I can feel this this well with only 190rwhp, I can't imagine what it feels like with 300.

Like Orb said...it depends on the track...and like westwest888 said..if this track stuff is new to you...you will have traction control fully enabled and wont know what you are missing. When you start playing with the end of the envelope..and really start pushing it..then you notice. Again, coming from AWD Audis...that I have tracked since 1997...I definitely felt the different first time on the track in the 335. I dont have the fundage to change to the M3 and get the LSD...so its either live with it...or belly up to the bar again and pay some serious change to get this rectified. However, if you talk to some experienced racer folk I know...they say the Quaife is not ideal for totally getting rid of this due to the design of it. I forget the details..but I heard this from the guy that set up the E90 Diesel race cars that have been racing lately. http://www.tcdesignfab.com (Tony, the owner..built the custom roll cage on my Spec Miata)
