Hows it Living in Charlotte?

Well I really feel like I need to move out of the D.C. area for a number of reasons.

1. Warmer weather, though probably not that much warmer.
2. Housing costs (a decent 2 bd condo in the DC area will cost you 350K +

I hear a lot of people rant about how nice Charlotte is...

So is this true? What's the 20's something crowd like? I'm 25....

Thanks!

OP I have two buddies moving to DC, for cheaper housing and better salaries than offer in Florida. I suppose the grass is always greener. Charlotte is a nice place and cost of living is still low compared to salaries. Good luck.

Better salaries yes....cheaper housing no. In this area the average cost of living here is 53% higher than the U.S. average. Only one city in FL comes close to that and that's Miami at 37% over the average.

Your buddies are in for a rude surprise if they think their going to find cheap housing

Well, if you want a safe area around here it will cost a minimum of 450k. Plus they are getting a $70k bump. There is a exodus of young professionals from Florida.

I moved to Charlotte when I was 25 from Cleveland. Cost of living is pretty darn good. For example, I bought a 1900 sq/ft (3bd 2 full 2 half) 3 story townhome for 140k. But it also depends where you buy. I am just outside of Charlotte in a suburb called Matthews. If you were to travel 20 miles south, that same floorplan is over 200k. But do your research.....

As for the weather, it does get pretty damn hot. Last year, we had over 30 straight days of 90 and above. Some (around 8-9 were above 100). I have not regretted my decision one bit in the near 2 years I have been down here.

Charlotte is a big 20's and 30's crowd.

Is crime really that bad in Florida? because I'm considering that state as well. Where did your friends live in FL that made them want to move?
