Track tires need advise

Okay folks. My Toyo T1-S's are now just about gone. I need a new set of tires and don't want to do top dollar anymore. I also don't want to go R Compound yet because I typically change rims and tires about a week or so before and after an event so these tire do get some regular street use. Any suggestions on what I should move to?

Thanks everyone!

Take a look at the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec and the new Toyo R1R.

Toyo R1R

They are very limited in sizes, but fortunately offer plenty of options in 18" for this car.

See my review of the Dunlop Direzza Z1 from the wheels & tires forum:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=direzza

I highly recommend this tire!

BTW, until June, Toyo has a rebate on its tires too.

Anyone know for sure how the R1R stacks up against the StarSpec?

I never came across a direct comparison between the R1R and the Z1. However the folks at SCCAForums.com did not seem that impressed with the R1R so I stayed away. It is amazing the amount of time and energy those folks spend on testing tires...

Randy there is a place in Long Beach that sells the R1R ( http://www.performanceplustire.com ) for a decent price. They also carry the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta which is very reasonably priced and is getting great reviews. I ALMOST went with those but ultimately was swayed by the performance of the Z1 Star Specs...

Thanks Randy but I'm leaning toward the Dunlop especially since Toyo doesn't make a R1R that is the same size I'm current running on the track. 225/45/17. Just how loud are the dulops? I read that it's really annoying. Your thoughts?

They go on tomorrow...I stalled to try to do some testing with my GTech Pro before installation but work has been too hectic and I can't find a place to do the lateral g testing legally and safely.

When I spoke with Gary at the Tire Rack he told me to expect noise levels to be approximately the same as the RFT's. We spent quite a lot of time talking about this issue since I once put Dunlop FM-901's on my WRX wagon and the noise from those was unbearable. Gary told me that the Z1 was nowhere near that and should be ok. I'll let you know tomorrow...

True enough but on the plus side in the size Randy is looking for they are only about $105/tire...At the same price point is the Hankook RS2 Z212. Take a look at http://www.edgeracing.com for more information...

One interesting note from the edgeracing site is that the Hankooks are 2.4 lbs/tire lighter than the RT615...

I have run on both the Toyo's and RT-615. I liked them both too.

But I was amazed by my set of Hankook R-S2 Z212's!

Give Eric at Frisby Tire (www.FrisbyRaceTire.com) a call (800) 798-7201. He'll give you some good insight on Toyo, Hankook and Hoosier. I run the Hoosier R6 and they are great.
