Question about 19' rims
Are there too many disadvantages having 19' rims? After reading a few posts, I started to think to change my order with 18' rims. Somebody cool me down please.

My Wash. DC friends think twice before putting 19s because of the road conditions in DC. For me, roads are ok where I live. The 19s with non RFTs feel a little better than the 18s RFTs. No regrets.

My 19's ride BETTER than the stock 18's. Alot better, due to no run-flats. My wife even noticed the difference. As for roads, I have no issues

Agreed, my stock 18's with RFTs felt like they were bricks...and the steering feedback is not as good as what i'm running now.. go with 19's...they look good and don't sacrifice that much in ride quality..

Does anybody else feel (as I do sometimes) that the larger rims are kind of a fad? I mean they reduce ride comfort, can affect handling, and are simply added as a cool look rather than providing any positive benefit. (Please correct me if I'm wrong --- is there a benefit other than aesthetics?)
My Canadian spec car has 16" rims, and I think it looks pretty good. I am considering putting the winter rubber onto the stock 16" wheels (I have the 155s - image attached) and then getting 17" for summer rubber next year. Can't really see the point of sacrificing ride quality for that kinda ricer look. Just my opinion!

Well here are what my stock 18's with run flats weigh... and here's what my 19's with wider tires weigh.... i mean, certainly lighter rims, and wider tires only make handling and acceleration worse.... and i spent 4500 on these just to look ricey

I don't think that simply putting 19s on a rig make it look ricer. Now which 19s put on certainly will. Heck, 16, 17, and 18s can make our rigs look ricer. We just swapped the 17" stock sport wheels (328xi) with RFTs for 19s with nonRFTs and the ride feels better (certainly quiter). Now, we could have put non RFTs on the 17s, but it wouldn't have looked as good to us

I would only go up to 19" rims if they are both light and strong. If not, I would stick with 18". The larger the rim, the more power is needed to turn them, but this is somewhat minimized with very light rims. Strength is a bonus.

I was going to say the same thing. I'm not an expert in physics, but it would be tough to get any car going with that large a wheel.

RW - Alot of modern cars are designed with 19" rims from the factory. Some even larger. On the other hand, if I tried to put 19" rims, no matter how light, on my Honda Prelude, that poor car would struggle to get down the street. Not the case with with my E90. But in general, you are right in that the larger the wheel, the more resistance there is to get them going. Counter that with very light (hopefully strong too) rims. Danny

Aesthetics wise I think you will want to stick with the 19's. The E90 is a larger car with larger wheel wells that dwarf an 18 IMO. 18's worked on an E46 but you really need a 19 to fill that fender area on the newer 3ers.
