Help: OK to run same tire sizes with mismatched tire brands or models?
I know our XI systems are sensitive to rolling diameter differences, etc. so I was wondering if running the same tire sizes but in different brands or models would be OK. For example, running three Continental 225/45/17s and one Bridgestone 225/45/17.
I ask because I currently have four 225/45/17 Continental DWS non-RFT tires on my car and would like to throw an old wheel with a 225/45/17 Continental ContiProContact RFT in my trunk for long trips as a spare. In the event of a flat, I could throw on the spare RFT so I could get to a tire shop, but I'd have mismatched tires on the car. Does anyone know if this would be OK to do? |

Diameter wise they are all 25". The difference will be in the tread depth but it is so small of a difference. If for emergency only and all the other tire pressures are ok then it shouldn't be a problem. Handling is a different story since the stiffness is different.
