So, fancy an m3 wheel with +/- paddles, so one side changes up and one side changes down.(335d 2007)

2009-2011 M3 wheels with paddles available on eBay, but after reading many threads, still not clear on if this is a big job?

So, I presume physically the wheel will fit , but what's involved in making the paddles work differently??

Is it a harness I have to buy, or do you just cut a couple of wires as I saw in one thread and if so.. which ones!!

depends on the year of the car im presuming yours is 2007. if so the paddles that come with the m3 wheel will work with no mods at all ive just fitted the m3 paddles to my 330i 2007. the wheel swop is quite easy just remeber to disconnect the battery before you remove the airbag and dont reconnect it before you replace the airbag. nexon motors on ebay is a good bloke to deal with about £520 for the lot delivered. theres also a place in sweden doing them. if you need anynore help pm me.

Yup, 2007 with standard paddles. Couple of standard 2nd hand m3 wheels ( a nice 2011 one in particular) with paddles on 'the bay' at around £200. So I can just buy the wheel, fit, and happy days? ( keep my airbag)

Do I not need to do anything in terms of my paddles. Both sides currently do up changes and down, where as the m3 wheel will do left down and right up ( or other way round!) ?

Btw- not the same one you've pm'd about!

Thanks for advice. Sounds like a nice simple mod. Wish I'd thought about it earlier. Now, I just need an m3 wheel with paddles!

Ah, that's not good. Thinking about it I did hear its a damaged repaired steering wheel, half BMW, half Kia, so I may not bother bidding

NJ it wont be fiddly mate. You have to disconnect the battery before removing the airbag. Then it should be a straight swap wheel for wheel. If the ebay wheel you brought did not come with trim and MF buttons, just swap over the ones from your old wheel. and then its plug and play.

Things of concern, may be slipring issues and MF compatibility, but if you already have the paddle shift ( push pull) which you do should be a straight swap. 30mins max. However mine, was different as I had no paddles and retrofitted a paddle wheel. Where as Acerboo has specific knowledge on dct paddles.

Definately best to speak to him first before you embark on anything if your not sure.

All the best, and post up some pics after!!

Edit, just to clarify you will NOT need a harness

Regards.

There is a great DIY on here of how to change a wheel, that will give you all the general advice and instructions, anything specific to the M3 wheel change it seems Acerboo is your man.

As others said disconnect the battery, getting the airbag released can be a little tricky so study the wheel to find the slots and then its easy. 30-45 min job.
