From 5w-30 to 0w-40 oil
Hey guys
Im currently running on 5w-30 oil and I was thinking of switching over to 0w-40 because I've read somewhere the 0w40 would provide better start up protection when the car is cold, the engine sound much quieter, The ticking noises would be reduced. Do you guys think it's a good idea to switch over to 0w-40? Would it decrease the engine life? |

Mobil 1's answer -
From a viscosity standpoint, a 0W-40 motor oil will have a higher viscosity at high temperatures than a 0W-30 oil, while having the same viscosity properties at low temperatures. For winter months - use 0w For summer months - use 5w Bottom line, I doubt any combination of the above will make a huge impact/difference to the engine. If the car is driven as DD and not tracked, then as long as they are LL-01 approved, that's all it matters. Although, I have been trying out all the difference combination to figure out which one would minimize oil consumption, I think I have found (Motul 8100 Xcess) 5w40 works a bit better for my situation. |
