N55 135 to N54 335

Hi All, I am from the 1 series forum and would like to seek some advise on the 3 series forum.

I am thinking of doing a swap from my current N55 135 to a N54 335 sedan. I need a 5 seater car for the family and the 335 sedan seems a good choice. Looking at 08 or 09 335 and was wondering if there is something I should be aware of (beside the fuel pump problem). Thanks!

Fuel pump isn't that expensive to replace anyway.

You still get a lot more room than your 135i.

Oil leak from the engine, you can see from the front around the oil filter housing. Probably almost every 335i will eventually leak through there, not that expensive to fix either if you know where to go. Also transmission mechatronics plug seal can leak, but it's a good thing so you might as well get the pan/filter replaced and oil changed.
Would be good if you know someone that can scan the code on it, just to minimize any problem you might have.

I can't recall exactly when did the CIC phase in, but I would definitely choose one with CIC.

+1 E90 is not that roomy, quite tight to fit 3 in the back.

get an LCI model if you can.

Msport was an option too, pickup an Msport preferably.

As Stu says.. go for an 09 model (LCI) and be on the look out for Msport as well. At some point in 09 or 10 the 335i started to come standard with Msport kit.

Compare a loaded 08' to a loaded 09' w/iDrive and you'll see the differences. You definitely want a face lifted model. Maybe check into a N54 535i for the family.

What are some features that distinguish an LCI from a non-LCI?

These threads will give you a good idea. The first thread compares the outsides of the E92's which were face lifted in 2011+ (N55) where as the E90's were face lifted in 2009+ (N54 till 2011). The second thread shows the base model E90/E91's. The M-sports look the best IMO which none of these pics show. For the interior, the new CIC iDrive was added in 2009.

I agree, definitely grab an 09 LCI if you can afford it.

And, definitely get an M-sport
-you'll love the N54

Fuel pump is covers by extended factory warranty and most have already been replaced so I wouldn't even worry.

LCI has updated headlight and taillights with LED indicators. Bad thing about them is they do fail, and the whole taillight has to be replace, but they are not that expansive, and by this time, most of them would have been replaced.
LCI also has square side mirrors, extra styling lines through tr bonnet, a update tailgate to accommodate the updated taillights.
