A fitting wrap up of this thread and discussion. So, they timed themselves, and didn't time themselves on about a thousand feet of the main straight?

This is debatable as some say that the last straight is never timed. I find this a bit hard to believe though.

Porsche could claim that they did count the final straight in their timing. If they do not promptly claim that, they did not as well.

True, unless they have the Ring for themselves, which car manufacturers sometimes do, especially when testing an unreleased car.

If they were using different measuring sticks, Stuttgart will certainly let everybody know.

i found another video where they didnt include that last straight away. if you watch closely you can see them start the clock right at he turns left and it stops right when he turns right into the last straight. maybe this is common?

and another

Same method used by GM too.

In addition to the safety aspect, cutting the lap at that point also means the driver can pull immediately into the pits, instead of having to complete a cool-down lap (which, at the 'Ring, is a bit longer than cool-down laps at other tracks).
Honest mistake by Autocar, IMO. Without reviewing other laps, it would have been hard to know the normal method.

It's my understanding that the timing marks used by Nissan are the same ones used by everyone else.

I don't believe for a second that it was a showroom stock GT-R that made the laps, but no manufacturer is dumb enough to post a timed video that isn't even a full lap.
