Question about Daten

If I try and code a newer LCI car with old Daten files is it possible to screw something up?

Is there any negative reasons to NOT update to the newest daten files? My personal car in an 06 E90 so I would think the older daten files would be better. Please clarify.

You should search around here as that information has been discussed countless times.

Using old daten files on a newer car with later daten files can screw things up. The biggest one is Kombi, where the dials don't work when coding with an older release daten files.
To fix that, you need to recode the Kombi once you have the correct version (or later) daten.

I hope you are confident in your coding before coding other peoples car (saw your thread posting about coding services).

You should try searching "Daten" and see if you can find an answer to my question.... Sure it may have been discussed countless times but that is probably deep in another thread that has a title completely different.

Geeze tough crowd here....

So from the sounds of it there is no downside to have the newest daten, even with working on older cars. I have been downloading a 4 gig torrent file for the last week now. And regarding the coding service thread, that is now down.
