Lux V6 vs. MTEC V4 Angel Eyes for Pre-LCI E90

Application: Pre-LCI E90 with factory xenon lights

I’ve had the MTEC V4 angel eyes for about 6 months now and recently heard that Lux just came out with their new V6 version which they claim is the brightest out there. I figured I’d get them and see how they stack up against the MTEC bulbs.

MTEC V4:
7000K
~$140

Lux V6:
6500K
~$125

I didn’t post wattage numbers because I feel like they just add confusion, plus I couldn’t find comparable values between the two bulbs.

I installed one of the Lux V6 angel eyes in one headlight and left the MTEC V4 in the other. The difference between the two is minimal, the Lux is negligibly brighter. I had to stare at it for a good 10-20 seconds before I could notice that it was barely brighter. This was at night too when the brightness difference should be more apparent. The color is exactly the same between the two. Both fade in and out when locking and unlocking the doors.

The Lux V6's appear to be high quality and durable. Good packaging as well. I wrapped the connectors in heat shrink tubing after connecting them. The blade connectors leave some metal exposed which could short out on the body of the bulb if both wires are touching the body at the same time. It would be very unlikely for this to happen, but just a concern I had.

Overall, the Lux V6's are nice, bright, all for a good price. If Lux's claim is true that the V6 is the brightest out there, then I think the MTEC V4 is a very close 2nd.

Now for the pictures… For fun I won’t say which bulb is which just yet. First 4 pictures are in direct sunlight. You can barely tell the AE’s are even on. Later tonight I will get some pictures around dusk and maybe night pictures if my camera cooperates (sorry for the dirty car, but I did clean the headlights!)

Thanks for posting. This is definitely going to help me with my decision. Just for fun and from the dusk pictures, I'm going to assume that the Passenger side is the MTEC V4 and the Driver side is the Lux V6?

Thx for posting and both look very nice. Any differences in the installation between the 2? Or apparent quality differences, heat sinks etc? I am about to buy one of these 2 and trying to find something that says buy this one. Ease of installation would certainly be a notable difference (though on a 2008 E90 ease is a very relative term). The comments about using shrink tubing around the connectors made me wonder how the Mtechs were done. Thx

MTEC's are high quality too, but I would say they feel only slightly less durable than the Lux. Both are very nice pieces. They aren't placed in a very hazardous place so durability probably isn't a huge factor. The connectors is also a minor thing, as I said it would be very unlikely for a short to happen because the exposed area of the positive connector is quite small. The negative connector is fully exposed however. Adding heat shrink was only for piece of mind. MTEC's connectors are molded/integrated into the housing, whereas the Lux uses wire leads. No difference in the install between the two or any pre-LCI E90 angel eyes. It's pretty easy to do.

Given that the Lux V6's are cheaper, I would go with them over the MTEC V4's.

We have actually been using this design for the connectors since we first made the lights, back in 2008. in 7 years we have never had 1 problem with them and we have made a huge number of these. We wouldn't make them like this if the aren't save

Im going to assume the Lux is in the passenger side housing?
Thanks for following up with pics! Side by side in your pics its really hard to tell the two apart. Guess I'll stick with the V4s till they give me problems.

Ok guys, I see a few differing guesses which goes to show how similar they are.

The truth... driver's side is MTEC V4 and passenger side is Lux V6.

Big props on Lux v6 I ordered sat and had them in my mailbox and on my car Monday super fast shipping great product (a diagram of which light to remove and what wire goes with what color would've been nice though) oh I too wrapped exposed wire in electrical tape lots of heat sink and lots of factory bare wire... Overkill perhaps peace of mind for sure though

Super bright super white don't mess around just get these you will not be disappointed

No the lights being compared here are only for the LUX E90 models only. Your X5 used a H8 halogen bulb and there are a number of products available for that, including our LUX h8 V5 and LUX H8 160 lights. The information for those is in the vendor section and a link in our signature.
