Awesome, thanks for the DIY Allan. I'm hoping I can figure this all out. No soldering or anything required, right?

You might need to use the blue "block" underneath the PRND indicator. I'm not sure if you had already done that. unclear... but use a T6 for it and you'll be able to tuck that in that shiftboot area and M/S should work again

Just completed this mod in my 2008 328xi but with the M3 DCT shift knob. Wanted to post a few notes to help out others...
1) M3 DCT knob part # 25122283705 (Switch, Throttle Valve) 2) The M3 knob has a 10 pin connector 3) Pin assignments for "blue" connector (from R -> L) 1 - +12v 2 - Night Illimunation +12V 3 - Ground 4 - EGS MGE 5 - N/A (not needed for mod) 6 - EGS MGA 4) Pin assignments for "white" connector (from L -> R) 1 - Not Used 2 - Park (not needed for mod) 3 - Reverse 4 - Neutral 5 - Drive (I connected to the D/S led on mine) I don't have the pin assignments on the M3 knob since I removed the connector, but they are very easy to figure out with a 12 volt power source. I used 2 of the Universal Pin Terminal Uncoded (Part # 61136913635) and 8 of the Pin Contacts (Part # 611300005198) in my install completely eliminating the Blue PRND indicator. M3 Knob_____________Connector______Pin +12V...............................Blue........... .....1 Illumination......................Blue............ ....2 Illum Ground....................Blue................3 R....................................White........ ......3 N....................................White........ ......4 D/S.................................White........... ...5 "+"..................................Blue......... ......4 & 6 "-"...................................Blue.......... .....4 & 6 M/S (center between +/-)...Blue...............4 & 6 |

Can someone confirm two things:
1) If using the M3 DCT knob, does it come with a new shift boot? Part # 25122283705 2) other than the changes in pinouts , the SAME misc parts are needed to complete the diy ( the wiring stuff the OP posted) Thanks! |

boot
I'm planning to do the M5 knob conversion - have received all the parts.
The M5 knob comes with it's own tiny boot - Any suggestions on how to get it off and put on my existing E90 boot on? Do I need to cut the tiny boot off, or just a part of it? Thanks! |
