Quick e90 jack question (changing wheels)
I have a floor jack. I know our cars have that plastic piece at the standard 4 pt jackpoints.
I do not have those rubber adapters and want to use wood blocks. Should I remove the hard plastic pieces first or can I just leave them on? the hard plastics pieces stick down slightly and are bull for the "BMW jack" to fit inside, but I am not wasting $ on their jack or even $25 on the rubber adapter pads from eds tuning. Thanks guys, need to get the summer wheels off and winters on... northeast region is getting hit with snow as we speak. I'm looking at 3" off snow outside my window

Leave plastic piece in but cut the blocks of wood so that they insert into plastic piece and protrude out. I usually jack from front center jack point.

I thought about using central points but I don't think my jack will reach.
will a cut 2x4 fit up into that plastic groove?

Measure and cut. Alternative is to use a hockey puck and cut that so it looks like those 25 dollar metal adapters. I butchered a piece of wood and have used it successfully but I'm tempted to splurge on the metal adapter.

I made my own from hockey pucks that I got at Dicks Sporting goods...1.99 each....so for 8.00 and a little time spent with a hack saw, I had 4 jacking point adapters. They work great with jacks and jack stands with flat tops...they work good with jack stands that have a shaped top...the puck fits well there, but I like a wider support base.
I did end up replacing 2 of the plastic BMW jacking points as one was missing and one was pretty chewed up from wear and tear....the cars are pretty low and it does not take much to scrape them on something. look for DIYs on how to make the Hockey pucks work..its very easy. TEMPLATE I cut a circle out of some card stock the size of the puck, cut the rectangle out of that circle and used it as a template for the other 3....I used a sharpie to mark a line about half way around the puck...... I cut the top rectangle first being careful to stop at the line going around the puck..then cut around the line in to where I had cut the rectangle. the pieces fell away leaving the right shape. Though I did not think I needed 4 of them, I ended up having to put the whole car on jack stands and was glad I had them... JP |

Occasionally in the "Misc for Sale" section of Roundel there's an ad for these jack-pad tools. The site is www.reverselogic.us and they charge $35 for the one adapter for your floor jack.
