6mt rattling when turned off

this car stays doing some weird shit... so SINCE i got it... the day i got it... before anything... after some periods of long driving when you turn the car off it sounds like a peice of metal rattling... it just happens for one second as soon as you hit the "stop button"

driving > hit stop button / rattles/turns off

went to BMW.. said they couldnt get it to make the noise... very weird... sounds like something is dropping against metal everytime i turn the car off

ANY idea what this might be

when you do it...try to open your door before you turn it off and see if you can hear the noise from the front or rear...if its from the rear im pretty sure its just the exaust piping shaking some from the engine shutting down. i noticed this here and there and wondered the same thing...found it was the exhaust pipes. assuming your noise is only for a split second.

its the clutch. it goes away if you hold down the clutch while turning it off. you also hear a similar sound sometimes when you try to get going in first at low speeds, like to park or something. my previous 6mt car, g35, did the same thing. and a lot of people with the 135 have asked the same question. i think its normal.

doesn't matter if you're in gear or in neutral, its the clutch being in that makes the difference.

Minde does the same. Also at low speeds when engaging the gear and lifting the clutch. What is it in the clutch? Never had it before with any other MT car.

My clutch makes the noise too. It only happens when I'm starting from a stand still and while the clutch is just starting to make contact with the flywheel. It's damn annoying.

I believe it's the result of having a two-piece or dual-mass flywheel. When the clutch is engaged it puts opposite rotation force on the flywheel at engine shutdown and causes a little spring back rotation and makes the flywheel make noise. E39 had the same noise. I'm hopefully not completely off on this one.

Yes the good answer is yours. I have the same noise and my dealer explain samething...is normal .If you push down the clutch when you shutdown the car...you listen nothing.
