I have same problem, I tried with my dealer and they just offered me a diagnostic scan. To which I questioned them why am I paying for a scan that cannot detect a corroded component. They had non of it and refused to look into the problem without me paying a hundred quid to do this. They were more interested in where I got the BMW technical document from stating the issue and solution to resolve it. They are aware that from 06 - 08 they used a certain supplier and they were the faulty ones but are reluctant to help unless you have a full BMW service history and you qualify for their goodwill gesture

Hi there, would this be like a white powdery substance? Every time I put the air con on it blows what seems to be white stuff every where. First time I heard of this. Where's the bulletin for this ? I thought it was due to me having my car having this deodoriser stuff put in 12 months or so ago

yea its a white powder, its the Air con evaporator corroding and the white dust is aluminium oxide flaking off and blowing through the vents. not nice i know. iv just had to put up with it as bmw wont touch my car under warrenty, iv tried pulling the health and safety card but the werent interested and to pay for a replacement to be fitted will involve the dash coming out which wont be cheap =/

Okay, here goes:
This covers 2007 cars only and evaporators made by denso The issue is a faulty / sub standard coating to the fins on the evap. This wears off over time, leaving the aluminium exposed. This comes into contact with water through humid air, and aluminium oxide (the dust you mention) is produced. Issues: You don't want to breathe this stuff in and left on exposed skin for a time isn't good also. What you need to do: replace the evaporator. This is around a 12-16 hour job if you do it yourself and the entire dash has to come out, exposing the heater matrix. You'll also need to drain the refrigerant also. There's a fantastic guide here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...6&d=1331031264 Not only do you have to do this, you'll also need to clean the pipes / vents to get rid of any residual dust There's a service information bulletin available detailing the issue: SI B 64 12 07 Heating and Air Conditioning http://************/d376een So, what can / will BMW do? I took mine in last week to BMW Park lane in Nine Elms. They had a look, got the boreoscope in and had confirmed the issue. I asked them to raise a case with BMW UK, and they offered to pay for the part alone, leaving me with a £1200 bill I raised a case directly with BMW who refused to budge on this. I went back to BMW Park Lane and asked for some good will from them, given that it's a bloody expensive repair and the part was sub standard anyway. They've agreed a nice discount making the repair a little more tolerable. So, I'll update you all on Saturday! I cannot fault BMW Park Lane at all. They've been great and understanding |

This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B64 12 07 dated September 2007.

CAUSE Surface oxidation of the evaporator. This only concerns evaporators manufactured by Denso (identified by the label on the front of the air conditioning housing behind the radio). PROCEDURE 1. Replace the evaporator. 2. Clean the heating and air conditioning housing and the air ducts to remove any residual flakes or powder. (Simply wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents.) PARTS INFORMATION Part Number Description Quantity 64 11 9 179 802 Evaporator (Denso) 1 WARRANTY INFORMATION Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Please refer to the latest KSD for all applicable labor operations and allowances. If the appropriate labour operation is not contained in KSD, then a work time labour operation shall be used. Defect Code 64 51 00 78 00 I was going to email bmw about this but don't know who to send it to...bmw obviously but would it be bmw uk ? I am going to try to either get the part for free or discounted and get local garage to do it....(that being my brother lol) |

My dec 2007 build 335i had this too and got a new evaporator. They replaced under AUC warranty but bleated on about how it wasn't under the cut off dates.Had to raise a Puma case for authority. They also claim it has no health related issues but I would disagree as powdered aluminium isn't good for you!

I just had my evaporator replaced last month. Got it done at an independent ac specialist. Cost me 600 all in. The part alone was 330 from bmw so 270 in labour.
bmw indy quoted me 850 |

Was just a small local place. Didnt even know they were there, only found out because my cousin works across the road from them and has used them before. Took a day and half dont know exactly how many hours they worked on it.
Suggest you try to find a local aircon specialist. They will be less likely to add the bmw premium on to the price. |

Got mine back from BMW Park Lane today. No squeaks from the dash and no snow :-) It's £950 I could have done with not spending, but it's done now...
However, they have a viewing area at the workshop for MOTs, but, as it's elevated, and has wifi, I could have watch the entire thing! |

I too also received a call from BMW asking my preferred dealer today. My worry is they send you for a diagnostic and charge £100, then tell you they wont give anything towards fixing it or a small discount but still leaves you with a big bill.Anyone got the repair done for free on a 2007 car?if so how did you do it?
