Letting other hands to on your car!

Since i got my car i have been hand washing it myself every sunday late afternoon. winter is coming and it's getting real cold, so i decided to take it to a hand wash. A hand was and wax costing $70.00 really didn't excite me. when i used to wash my car i usually take it to the DIY places (Vending Car Wash) and take a bucket with so i could hand wash them, usually only takes like $10.00 for me with 2 hrs of my time.

Now the question is, do you guys still wash by yourselves since it's getting really cold or do you take it to the 'professionals'? and how much average for a wash and quick wax?

i really can't stand paying $70.00 for a hand wash and wax every week. Plus now i got swirls on my car don't know since when and i guess it's gonna cost like shit if i ask them to detail the car.

how cold is it now in Texas? i washed and waxed my car last sunday and it was about 42F here in the boston area, not too bad and car came out great. soon when the temp goes below freezing i will take it to the pros to be hand washed. they charge 15 for exterior and 29 for everything. i wil do this about every 2 weeks unless we get a warm weekend, then i will do it my self. usually in march i can consistantly start doing it myself.

If you drink a bunch of that Johnnie Walker before you go wash it I bet you won't even notice the cold.

How cold is "real cold" in Texas? I washed my car last weekend and it was around 45 here in Detroit.

I can't imagine/afford $70 every week for a car wash. Hell, I complain about $5 for the touchless wash. My plan is to wash it by hand on those occasional "warm" winter days (when it nears 40). Otherwise, I'll just do the touchless wash once or twice a week. It's winter... I don't expect my car to look great. I'd rather it be a little dirty then risk swirl marks from someone else.

I would see if your place will do a wash without the wax. I agree that $70 is a bit excessive if you were to use thier services weekly.

I have only washed my car myself 2-3 times in the 16 months I've owned it. I found a hand car wash that does a good job and doesn't leave swirl marks. In a few weeks they are going to do a full wax job (and they let me bring my own wax - I use nothing but Klasse on my cars).

hahahah, you northerners shoul know that southerners do not like cold (hence we migrate south). But in DFW, there are snow during winter (not really thick snow or anything). My suggestion for our DWF OP is in the winter, wash it during noon and just give it a quick wash. Yes I have avocate not washing car in the sun but winter sun are not that hot so a quick wash should do the trick. Either that or pay $70-$80 to let someone else wash it.

I wear heavy duty construction gloves with regular gloves inside them to keep my hands warm.... So the cold doesn't really affect me..... But I have been very unhappy with the job that detail shops do for $70 - $100 so I don't bother at all..... So to answer your question, nobody washes or touches my car besides me.

What? Really? I thought warm water was beneficial in many ways--the bugs, dirt, and grime seem to come off easier than if you are using cold water. What damage could it possibly do?

The veding DIY car washes also spray warm soap water. Is it bad for the paint or what, cause if i don't know anything about cars i would use warm water as it's easier for the bugs and tar to be cleaned.
but come to think of it, there's also a reason for washing machines having a cold water wash and clothes to have wash with cold water tags on it.

btw another question here.
got my car from the dealer from service and asked them to fix the rubber seal at the bottom left corner of the rear as it was falling/slipping off and they just remolded it today and couldn't wash the car, asked me to take it back next week for a wash.
don't know if they said next week because of thanksgiving holiday but how long does it really take for the mold to settle so i can get the car washed. it actually looks really, like they left it out for a week in rain and dust. i'll post up some pics if i have the chance. believe me, it's f&#ken dirty.

Garage + a portable space heater + QEW == Clean car all winter long (even in Buffalo). Also, the 5 coats of zanio I put on before the winter help alot to get most of the stuff off the car easier without scratching.

If it's really dirty, then I take it to the absolutely touchless car wash to get all of the heavy stuff off first..
