After buying my first BMW new, when it was time to trade I decided that CPO was the only way to go. Anyone else who only buys CPO?? My e92 is still under factory for another year till CPO kicks in, but the X5 just got a new radiator courtesy of CPO. Was mighty nice to only have to pay $53

I do. The extra warranty is sweet and someone else gets hit with the immediate depreciation. Ive had no issues w my 335i, but about $20000 worth of warranty work to an X6 makes me think I dont want to own a BMW off warranty.

I bought 3 other BMW's that were not CPO.
Never had a problem with any of them.
My 335i is CPO and I've had a couple of issues.

WIth the way they are now built and the requirement to code just to replace a battery.
CPO only from now on. Don't buy the maine. though.

$20k in warranty work?? What's gone wrong with the X6??

My 330i was CPO. Will look for CPO in the future as well, but it's really hard if you're picky with options and colors. Took me 3 months to find my car and seriously considered cross-country purchases more than once. Lucked out and found one pretty much exactly how I wanted fairly local to me in the end.

Yes, CPO is definitely the way to go if you can find the right vehicle.
I was lucky to find mine and purchased it in Oct 2012. It's a new 2011 (demo)
with less than 1000 km on the clock, so I get almost the full extended
warranty (160000 km and 6 years out to 2018). This however is factored
into the pricing, but it's still very attractive and well worth the premium.

Bought my car CPO and would highly recommend it if you are a 'dealer-only' type of owner.

No headaches with ownership and you know it's part of the 'better' used bmws for sale in the market.

You can look at like an insurance policy. With BMW's needing more and expensive maintenance, than say a Japanese car, I believe it is the way to go. Trick I think is to find one that has very low mileage and a lot of time left... and of course has all the options you want. Not easy but adds a sense of accomplishment to gaining your 'new' BMW!

just buy one that is still under full warranty and purchase the BMW extended warranty. I will never look exclusively for CPO any more as I have discovered that a CPO car is just a used car with warranty included.

CPO is a big part of BMW's business model. As you know, there is a lot that is not covered, but people buy it anyway (I bought an extended warranty on mine as I was the original owner). You blow any hoses and melt the head, not covered. Your PS pulley hits the subframe causing a $3700 repair, not covered. Brand image is so strong for BMW that they can do almost anything they want. What they can't do is to continue to raise the prices, because no matter how strong the brand image is, people need $$$ to buy the vehicles, and not everyone is willing to lease. Look at the rebates they offer, they're no different today than the Korean cars where the prices are inflated and the rebates abound. It translates into a weak resale, however.

Exactly what I did. When I purchased my CPO e92 it only had 16k miles on it and was only 1 year into the 4yr/50k warranty. Hard to beat that!!!

I drove 3,100 km to get the car I wanted, and would only trust CPO to allow my conscience to let me buy it sight unseen. So far, so good.

I've had good luck with CPO purchases and will continue to purchase them. I will keep my 328 outside of warranty, but probably wouldn't keep most other BMW models past the warranty period.

My 330i wasn't a cpo, but x3 is (well wAs). Just hit 100 k miles about same time warranty ran out, so my transfer case got fluid change at no charge, and a tune up. 335is is also CPO. I was lucky to find color I wanted relatively local (300 miles away). Settled a little on options, but got all necessities. Got extended maintenance plan as well, which covers all maintenance costs without deductible. All warranty work is $50, and x3 had roughly 3k worth of warranty work. All minor stuff.

If you are buying BMW used, cpo is absolutely the only way to go. As it was pointed out earlier you may have to take time and wait for color and options you want. Warranty is better then new at 40% off new price.

I bought it in Feb 11, and by Sept 11 it had been in shop for 11 1/2 weeks. Check engine light came on and they basically couldnt find out what was wrong and just started replacing everything, radiator, turbos, catalytic convertors, hoses, gaskets, and they pulled the engine out disassembled it to whatever degree to clean out an excess build up of carbon. Finally figured out it was both mass air sensors and one of the turbo hoses had baked due to the heat and cracked. Also replaced the battery, and some component with the back up camera bc it was out of sorts. Had about 35000 kms at the time.
Good times paying for an X6 50i and driving a 328 loaner around instead.
Got rid of it, but I did love driving it.
