JB3 problem

All,

I've tried 3 times to get this JB3 to run on my 2007 335i. The car starts fine, and then the radiator fan kicks on high, and the half engine light comes on.

Is this normal? I bought the JB3 off someone else. It's the JB3 2.0 I believe.

Could this be incompatible with my car?

Thanks much.

Ok. Re-read the guide. Twice now. Watched the video. I'm confident I've installed it as instructed, though mistakes happen. I will have another go in a bit.

Thanks.

If even 1 pin is kinked or not in right it will cause a problem.

Well no luck. I checked everything and re-sat all the connectors 3 more times. And still exactly the same problem. Car starts, get the Half engine light, and the radiator fans kicks up to high and stays there. I've disconnected the pnp now. Not sure what else to do.

PS the PNP board is Rev 2.2

Pay special attention to the gray connectors with the red wires attached. I screwed that part up after I had installed mine correctly several times in the past. Spent an hour looking like an idiot until I swapped it around the right way. What part of Atlanta are you in?

I'm in downtown near Ga State. The red wire connectors can only go in one way on the small subconnector. I really have no idea now other than maybe the JB3 board is toast.

Did you get this used? You can post some pics of the install so we can make sure its installed correctly.

Don't you have to let the ECU go to sleep before install? I think some people even disconnect the battery just to make sure.

Yes, I had the battery disconnected everytime I made a change. I read somewhere that sometimes the software on the chip gets corrupted. Maybe this has happened.

Dude, I had sooo many problems with a used JB3, misfire, engine lights, limp modes. Sent it in for JB4 upgrade and all good now!!! I now know something was wrong with the JB3 unit I had. Spend the $180 to upgrade and I promise you won't look back.

Yes. This is exactly what I've decided I'll do. Get the upgrade and all that comes with it. I'm tired of messing with used goods.

Thank you everyone for your input.
