By the way, does anyone think that this has been done on purpose? Like some cunt has screwed it in?

No, If someone was doing it on purpose they would have gone through the sidewall and used a knife........and no I no experience of doing that, just much easier than screwing a screw into rubber!

The thing is if i pull it out, and then it leaks badly, car will be stranded! So plan is to drive to a nearby tyre place on Monday and just pay them a tenner to swap tyres, so at least i can have a safe journey to the vulcanising place, drop the tyre off, then drive back 2-3 days after and they will put the repaired tyre back.
Agreed, all I am saying if before you pay them a tenner, take the screw out (at their premises), if it does not leak, job done.

Yeah you're prob right it is hard to screw it in.

I just realised i bloody sold my 235 tyres!!!! And i fucking lost my locking wheel nut key!!

What do i do? The place needs the tyre for around 3 days. I'm going away on Thursday so might just leave it until i come back

If it were me I wouldn't sweat. If you need to use the car do so, just take it easy and be aware that the tyre may deflate if the screw gets broken, torn out or pushed in further so drive accordingly.

On my wife's car which I use as a mile muncher (E46 330i Touring) both rears have a nail in according to the MOT tester, but not losing air and have driven 7K since it was tested in March, so will keep running them until the either wear out or start losing air.

I guess i'll just leave it, as i'm going away next week. Its just too much of a hassle to get the locking nuts off, as i've lost the key.

I think when i come back i'll just put the car on jack stands and take the wheel/tyre with me in another car. But that will be a few months.

I'll try some fairy liquid tomorrow and check the pressures. If its not losing any then i'll leave it in until i get back.

In that case, go for it! Good luck. I'd never heard of this new method myself. It's worth a shot.

Mo, I've seen repairs done on sidewalls before its not something we'd ever entertain(due to safety) as the sidewall takes a lot of stress but I dare say there are places that would look to remove the offending nail/screw and repair this.

But for me it looks like a new tyre I'm afraid

However there is another solution you can look at if you want to save the tyre and perhaps preserve the other tyres http://www.ultraseal-swiftlysorted.co.uk/ saw this demonstrated we were stabbing a tyre with a sharp spike and all that was happening was the tyre from inside with the gel was instantly being re sealed. Got to be worth a look

I've heard that it isn't advisable to use fix a flat type products on wheels with TPMS sensors... but if you're in a pinch and don't mind buying a new sensor when it's all fixed right, you do what you have to do...

Our cars don't have TPMS sensors in the wheels, the flat tyre indicator works by comparing wheel speeds taken from the ABS system, so I can't see this being relevant to the 'fix' or 'no fix' tyre decision.

Ah... I think all E9x in the US *do* have TPMS, at least I've never seen one with FTM.

So i've come back from holiday and still have this waiting for me:

I really don't know what to do. I don't feel comfortable driving hard with this in the tyre, especially where it is. My options are:

1) Vulcanise repair it
2) Buy TWO new PSS tyres as i don't want one tyre 8mm and one 6mm

I took it to National Tyres just to get their opinion, and straight away the guy sais "New tyres mate". I asked about vulcanising and he said that thats really for commercial tyres that have a wider tyre band, and the vulcanising won't strengthen it properlt.

The vulcanising place say its as good as new when done. It actually bonds the rubber together.

Any ideas on what i should do?

U might be in luck mate

Googled up the policy wording

It says
"If your insured vehicle is a BMW fitted with non run-flat tyres, the claim limit includes the cost of replacement of any used liquid sealant supplied as part of the mobility system.
If your tyre cannot be replaced with an identical tyre it will be replaced with a tyre of an equivalent specification up to, but not exceeding the claim limit."

Thats great!

I've read the document now and it says if your tyre is 6mm and over they pay for another one. If its between 2mm-6mm then they pay 50%. They take 3 tread measurements and take the lowest figure! My tyre is 6 6 5!!! Will try and take it to a garage who will measure it in my favour

So 2 tyres = £300. They pay £75 so cost £225. Sell one 6mm tyre which is fine for £100 maybe.

Just ordered 2 new PSS tyres for £330 fitted BMW should pay for one after submitting claim.

I find it very annoying that BMW will only pay 50% of the tyre if its under 6mm (mines above checked properly today).

I might just keep the spare one just in case.

If you haven't as yet, I can't believe you haven't unscrewed the screw and checked to see whether it has punctured the tyre....and then worried about it.

I didn't want to risk getting a flat, then i'd be properly stuck!

I'll take it out when the tyre has come off. If its fine i'll keep them as spares or sell them. But its hard to tell whether the tyre has been comprimised by just looking for a leak.

Get access to an inflator. Partially unscrew and use some diluted washing-up liquid to check if any air leaking. If not, keep on unscrewing until out. If you see a leak, screw it back in and get it vulcanised or replaced.

Tried this today just before changing the tyres. Took the screw out, it was small. Tyre looked fine and the tyre place said nothing wrong with it!

Anyways i got 2 new PSS fronts on. Will have 2 PSS 235/35/19 tyres with 6mm for sale soon.
