Coolant Change Using Airlift
So I have an Airlift that I bought to change the coolant in my K1300S. It's needed because the filler is below some of the coolant passages (why BMW designed the coolant system like this is beyond me but that's a different topic!). Anyway I'm wondering if anyone has used this tool on an E9x.
Here's the link to the Airlift http://www.uview.com/index.cfm?dsp=p...productid=5120

I drained and refilled my cooling system at least 5 times including a complete hose set replacement. I never needed anything other than gravity. I don't think there are coolant passages above the coolant reservoir fill neck. The cylinder head is below or at least level with the fill neck. The bleed procedure removes all the air from the system.
Let us know how the AirLift works. |

Yeah I realize that the layout of the coolant systems are different. I'm thinking that there is no need to "bleed" the system when the Airlift is used.

Considering the N52/N54 bleed procedure is with the engine cold and just uses the water pump, it's almost fool proof (heck, I've done it 5 times already with no issues ). The kit you show is pretty neat. What was the price for it?

I've never used it personally, but my BMW dealer uses it for coolant replacement - they used it after my waterpump replacement. You should not need to do the coolant bleed routine, if you use this effectively - the tech who did my waterpump did not have to bleed the system. There is a good vide on You Tube about it.

So I finally got around to trying the Airlift. This is got to be the best tool I've every bought. Makes refilling any coolant system a no brainer. I still want to verify that the system is completely filled but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied. The attached pic shows the tool hooked up. For it to work the overflow hose has to be pinched off. The nice thing about the tool is you can check to make sure there are no leaks before filling the system.
