Well I'm still getting the low battery alarm flashing (its now critical low) I have placed the car on the ctek charger.

I called my local bmw dealer and they said its about $6-700 to replace the battery and register it but it should last 6-7 years.

The car is almost 6 years old and has little to no use in the past 6 mths I'm guessing I'm going to be up for a replacement...

Can you just buy a bmw specific battery and have the dealer code/register it?

Cheers, I didnt think it would be that easy without BMW charging you $600 for some BS optional extra module/add in!

Do you have a usb port in yours? I have noticed a few of the usa guys saying they do (maybe its the 08+ models that have this?)

You can use any battery (ideally with a CCA rating equal to or higher than what you currently have) but it must be coded to the car.

Most indies will charge $400-500 for a new brand name battery including fitting and coding.

Really that still sounds like getting bent over IMHO, not that I've bought a battery for a while but I did have an expectation of 200, but hey I am a tight arse

On the subject of USB ports. I found one in the glove box, on the right hand side, anyone know what that's for?

I believe you can upload data to the internal HDD (music etc) reading another thread on this topic, I would have thought it was a charge port for usb devices initially?

That is to upload/backup music on your onboard HDD.

Some food for thought....

I'm using a Bluetooth gateway to stream my music (from my iphone) which is connected to the aux port and powered by the cigarette lighter.

Unfortunately, my vehicle didn't come with the USB port under the centre arm rest.
