My old job was about 20 miles away, 70% had very little stop and go. Back then I ave 23-24. Now, driving mainly stop and go it's around 20.5. Gets worse in the winter due to that shit gas, richer conditions, spinning tires ect. When it gets nice (if it gets nice) I expect it to go back to around 21.5.
Edit, car has just shy of 140,000 miles. Also note, shorter than stock gear ratio. But that did about nothing to mpg. Maybe .5 mpg at speeds above 70. new 328i M sport with a stick is appealing, what with it's torque and mpg... not worth having a car payment at this point for me though. Part of the beauty of these cars is how well they hold up. I maintain my car somewhere between what the manufacturer calls for and Mike Millers schedule (closer to the later), plus I am a detail fanatic. Here in buffalo we have a great car wash chain that has unlimited "touch-less" car washes for like 20 bucks a month, so I take advantage of that in the winter months, and get the car washed 2-3 times a week regardless of snowfall to get the salt off. It's truly a well built, well functioning machine that really is as quick as a street car needs to be with minor mods (if you can call a 3.38 lsd minor ). I'ts a shame really that most americans buy BMWs loaded with gadgets that inevitably have issues, giving these cars that 'don't own one out of warranty' perception, leading to such a high rate of leases.

when the computer says fully empty, you still got 5L left in the tank.
a manual helps, but I think its mainly the 3 stage manifold helping with low end torque because I doubt an exhaust makes a huge different with efficiency |

330xi MT with 119,XXX miles. My commute is half city, half highway. My MPG indicator is usually at 23 or so. I changed the spark plugs at 100,XXX miles. No tune - entirely stock.

AA headers, AA tune, custom exhaust setup, euro intake w/ k&n filter~ I have alot of fun w/ it almost everyday, on a full tank of shell 93, I get 349 miles. When it was stock, it was 396 miles. Edit: 359 after the custom exhaust. 349-ish with stock mid-pipes and unknown muffler. Last edited by Noir; 02-03-2017 at 12:49 PM.. |

My ~65k mile, '06 330i 6MT used to get ~27mpg at 70% freeway 30% city, with slightly spirited driving. Put on some new wheels and tires and the PE system now I'm at 23.7mpg. I drive ... very enthusiastically now. It doesn't help that everyone drives so slow around here!
I will mention that before I installed the PE I had my cars control modules codes updated as I was having some weird electrical issues. Somewhere between that, the PE and my lead foot lies the lost mpg's. |

330i w/102,000 miles.
All stock (Euro intake on its way though!) ~24 City ~31 Hwy 80%Hwy/20%City Spirited driving about 30% of the time. Shift ~3000-3500rpm (normal driving) Shift ~5000-6500rpm (spirited driving) I use only 93+ oct from: Shell, Exxon, Sunoco. Changed spark plugs at 80,000 miles. Still on original coils. This car is amazingly solid. I love it.

I play around tooooo much when I drive too. I honestly couldn't give you an explanation... The things I have replaced since I got it at 76k miles was: VCG, Oil filter housing gasket, New Head bolts, New tensioner, serpentine, I replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils, Cam position sensor, the football gasket (cant for the life of me remember what the little motor its for is called.. valvetronic motor? Drawing a major blank...), both vanos sensors. Had the bms pbx installed(then removed for future plans. Installed the euro spec intake as well. Maybe that bumped my mpgs, not sure.) and before my custom exhaust (had AA headers, oem mids, and some aftermarket muffler that some dude before me installed.) I was sitting at 35x miles for a full tank. With the custom exhaust setup (headers included) I am sitting at roughly ~365 for a full tank. I use shell 93 out here... change oil every 3k miles... Maybe its how I coast? I haven't a clue. Even with my new clutch and flywheel making me have to drive like a granny, MPGs stay the same on my dash. Maybe my computer is inaccurate. But I drive 28-30 miles round trip to get to work. I fill up every 10 days it seems so I don't go below a quarter of a tank. So I get roughly 300 miles in then I need to fill up. |

As per my sig: 2005 E90 330i 6MT, no mods! Has the Euro type intake which was standard here.
So far my worst fuel consumption from mostly city driving and traffic was 18.82 mpg (had to calculate from l/100 km), and my best was 26.43 mpg from mostly open road driving. My overall average over the years is 21.58 mpg. Realistically, when I am driving, I can easily get to as low as 23 mpg if I can avoid sitting stationary or behind slower traffic, otherwise typically I will see it around 21 mpg. I always reset my average fuel consumption when I fill up, so this is always per tank and based on fuel used versus distance travelled - although the average consumption shown is usually pretty accurate. |

My 06 Z4 3.0si 6MT Same 255hp N52B30 engine as a 330i . I was getting 16.9-17.2mpg and now I'm at 18.2mpg after swapping the Diff from 3.23 to 3.46 about 2 weeks ago.
I drive 12mi to work but it takes 25mins, People don't drive like in the states here. Also there may be a lot of 7k Sprints on the way home. |

So yes, I can easily chew through a tank of fuel, but my driving style, albeit spirited a lot of the time, is to pay attention to that econometer to try and keep my average fuel consumption down, and over the years I have figured out how to drive the car to save fuel a bit. |
