Project M35i (Creating your own BMW!)

I live in Egypt.. I had purchased a 2009 BMW 316i Coupe brand new from the local BMW Dealership for those of you that arent aware of the 316i it is a 1.6 Liter Engine producing 126 HP which doesn't really feel like a BMW !

In Egypt we have very high customs and taxes on cars. For instance a new M3 which is very unique here would set you back 2,300,000 LE which is equivalent to $460,000 ! which is insane !

My 316i Coupe cost me 350,000 LE which is $70,000. Car was nicely equipped.. Had idrive, 6 speed manual transmission, leather seats, sunroof, and 16" wheels.

The car looked beautiful but felt like I was driving a civic ! so I decided to spice up things a bit.

Phase 1
February 2010
Exterior:

I ordered OEM M3 Parts such as Front & Rear Bumpers, Hood, Fenders, Mirrors, Front Brackets, Air Ducts and 19 inch M3 Wheels.. Brand New Shipped from BMW Germany.. with all required part for installation.. Had to manually widen the rear fenders at the body shop

Phase 2
June 2010
Interior:

Ordered 2 complete M3 interiors. From Racers with Track M3s.. One Fox Red and one individual saddle brown..

Phase 3
November 2010
Mechanical:

Finally after a long long long search and help from online junk yards I found a mint 2010 BMW 335i DCT convertible with a broken convertible top that was written off from the insurance company and sold to a junk yard.. and a rear accident 2009 M3 Manual.. I decided to go with the 335i has more luxury features and with minor tuning will reach 500-600 HP..

The car is now getting its new system installed... Engine, Transmission, Suspension, Complete center console with new i-drive, Brakes etc...

I thought this was an interesting transformation to share...

Will keep you updated with photos..

Cheers

well i definitely give you points for your efforts but holy crap 70k for a 316 and 400+ for an M3?!? How much does a Lambo cost?

I had an e36 316 as my first car when i lived in scotland, bought it for 900 pounds. My favourite part of the car was the manual wind up sunroof

OP cannot afford an m3 or 335i, so he is doing an m3 body convert and a 335i engine convert.

Sadly yes I cant afford an M3 in Egypt... As I said its $460,000 and a 335i is $280,000... So I built my perfect car for $100,000.. it would have cost the exact same if I had put an M3 Engine...

No.. I chose the V6 335i Engine because its lighter and after tuning it will be much faster than the M3...

I ordered the following for it...

Bastuck Quad Exhaust System
ASR Closed Dual Intake
Riss Racing Oil Catch Can
Slip Differential
Juice Box 3 Tune Kit

Don't forget the M3 suspension, that's what really makes the m3 a monster.

M3 Suspension is amazing but not for Egypt... that actually one of the reasons why I picked the 335i.. Our roads are rough... Lots of bumps and holes.. My brother has an E46 M3 complains all the time from the stiff suspension...
