Adding DAB...
Hi guys,
Just got my 2011 320d M Sport Coupe last week and have a question regarding getting DAB fitted... My car has Professional Nav, BMW Assist, Extended BMW online, Teleservices, USB Control and Combox etc according to the spec list. In the radio menu I only have the FM/AM options.. Is getting DAB as simple as plugging in a module and having it coded or something along that lines? I know BMW do an aftermarket DAB option with wireless remote but I hate anything extra there that doesn't need to be. Cheers Craig |

Retrofit of the OEM DAB module onto an earlier E9x with the CCC type nab is quite possible, particularly if you have already preparation wiring in place for a CD changer (look in the LH boot cubby hole). The only part that may not be economically viable is to use the OEM aerial solution integrated into the rear window, but a £20 stick in internal aerial could be adequate. I'm not totally sure of the options for later cars with CIC nav systems as I think the DAB options came integrated into the nav unit so you may have to replace the unit.
I've recently done this retrofit on my '07 tourer (CCC nav), costs were about £200 for the DAB module plus bracket from eBay, and £20 for the aerial (also ebay). The module goes under the floor in the boot, to the left of your Bluetooth module. If you have the CDC preparation then this wiring can be redirected to the DAB location after stripping out the internal trim in the boot. Coding will be required for which you can probably find a friendly forum member close to you with NCS Expert to update the Vehicle Order (VO) on your car to include the new option. The DAB option is a worthwhile upgrade if you have nav/I drive and a reasonable reception in your area. For any more info/advice please drop me a pm. Chris

Thanks for your replies gents, it's the later cic system in my car. I'll have a think about it... The reception up here in the north of Scotland doesn't give me access to all the stations so may not be worth it!

The Kufatec Fistune DAB module gets a good write-up
Use a sticky-on aerial on the window as mentioned above or a mag mount. Control everything from the iDrive I tried an AutoDAB unit, and whilst it was good for DAB in the Midlands of England-shire, it did degrade the FM signal, which I didn't want. It's now residing in my garage, awaiting eBay listing! Mike |
