as long as there are no hardware updates that I have to pay for, I'll be happy.. but this thing with locked vins is going to take a dump on the resale of a unit and I'm not ok with that..

although being unable to sell ur piggyback if you are selling your car does suck, VIN locking was the way the older Shark systems that Jim Conforti used to design were. Once used, the unit only was used for one car.

It is financially smart and safe. Vishnu makes money and the unit is specific for your car only - and if you want to unlock it, theres a price to pay. The more units there are, the lower the resale becomes anyways. This is just a way to protect the value of the unit.

I was hoping for a black friday deal, but thankfully they came out with a $645 unit. I also love the new website. It outlines what each additional upgrade does. I will just get the enthusiast set up and just keep it as it is.

Yep... Imagine what a single unlocked DME flashing/programming unit will do to a market. And to the wallet of the team that took the time and spent the resources to develop it.

it sort of the BT Tool when you first use it on a bmw, it locks to that vin?

The problem is that people who bought the v4 purchased them under false pretenses. Similar to a law, people are usually grandfathered in as long as things happened prior to the rule change.

Im just not sure what would happen if I just didn't upgrade to the v5 then?

Kind of shady business if you ask me to maximize sales prior to the implementation.

Haha...you are worried about resale value? You shouldn't have bought your car...because it will depreciate $25K in the first 3 years..how does that compare to $150??!?!

People fret over the littlest things, and just accept the norm of massive depreciation, insurance/gas/monthy payment/interest costs etc...that cost tens and thousands of dollars over a few years.

It's not shady at all.

The resale value already went down since the new price is $645 when others on the board are selling for $750-800 used. It's only a problem for those that want to sell their tune.

He hasn't mentioned yet the price of activating another VIN for the PROcede, has he?

I do understand the logic behind locking it to the VIN, it's the same way with software and other technologies. Does it hurt the resale? Maybe. But I bought the tune to use for myself for 4-5 years...so losing $100 at resale isn't going to get my blood boiling. Most people buy the tune for themselves...and the lower resale is a small portion in the grand scheme of selling the car/buying a new car.

If you don't want to update to v5, just run v4. It's what you purchased and that will never change. It works flawlessly and it's arguably the best tune option on the market. It will not lock to any car. Nor will it require any VIN license purchase when transferred to the next buyer.

+1

People can just get the JB3 tune and let the engine knock.

Or better yet, get a flash. But then the flash is VIN specific as well and you can't resell it...

+1. I am not happy with these developments, but I will use a wait and see approach.

Its not about the idea of making some of the money back on resale, it's about the principle of the matter.

I just wonder on the original website if it mentioned the ability to use the procede on other vehicles or not.

I could care less about the $300 or $400 but I don't like being promised one thing then having that change.

Yep, it's $150. Or FREE if the Procede owner wants to transfer it to another car that they purchased.

Shiv, this doesn't apply to the beta users?

The point is, at least with the flash people knew that they couldn't transfer the flash to another vehicle. While with the procede every person who purchased thought they could transfer it at will and was one of the selling aspects.

Im not denying the quality of the procede at all, its a fantastic product but I just dislike this bait and switch tactic. I mean, I probably wont even be selling this car for 3 or 4 years, so it's a moot point for me, but it's just an overall complaint with the marketing.

I am wondering if and when there is a V6 (or another feature to V5 not included on initial release) will even us old rev.2 owners still have to pony up $50 a feature? Or are we completely exempt from purchasing any add-ons moving forward?

Nope... no ponying up for more map activations (when/if they are made available). Consider all current users exempt from this pay-as-you-go approach. You guys have nothing to worry about. Especially when it comes to resale value. "Earlier" Procedes will always be in demand.

Exclamation

This vin lock thing reminds me of how my sct xcal2 handheld flasher worked on my cobra.

Shiv in a previous post you mentioned flash/tuner...............you also keep mentioning the future and that vin locking will make sense to us...........IS THE PROCEDE HEADING TOWARDS A HYBRID FLASH AND TUNE DEVICE?

Its a rip to have to pay any amount of money to resale. Not only does the person who buys the unit have to pay $150 but the person selling has to pay too since the unit they are selling is useless without it. This is utter BS and greed.
