First owner: 2008

Factory warrany valid regardless of who the owner is warranty follows the car vin: 2012
Car manufactured: 2007

Your dealership ripped you off on work that should have been warranty I rest my case.
I believe he speaks the truth. Not cool if that's how it played out. AND NOW I TURN MY JUDGMENT ON THE FOLKS AT PERILLO BMW.

Well Valentine since we all know your name address and phone....

1. I would never let Joe Perillo touch my car with a 1000 foot pole. It might be a lil out of your way but there are some really good dealers in the Chicago area/suburbs

2. How long did you know about the crack since it says it's a previous quoted issue and why didn't you fix it right away?

3. If I were you I'd contact another dealer like Bill Jacobs or Laurel and get a 2nd opinion. Did I read right that you were doing an oil change every other month because of your oil leak??

4. Call up A&L or some other shops recommended in the regional forum. They'll get your car fixed for much less than $15k. I asked Boyce Bodywerks about your issue and they can probably fix it for less than half.

I still can't wrap my head around why you didn't get the valve cover leak fixed ASAP...let alone if your car was under warranty...why the f didn't the tech schedule it in right away.

My 07 E92 was built August of 06 and just turned over 40K miles. And I'm far from stock - I work from home and don't put that many miles on it. When I do drive it, I don't abuse it, and thus far, the only repairs BMW has made are HPFP and a steering angle sensor, both under warranty. So not everybody's early N54 "blows up" at 45K miles - it may be next year before I get to that point, but I'm not anticipating any trouble.

In the case we're discussing here, I don't think we're getting the full story.

Mine is an aug 06 build as well. I have 74k miles.

Hpfp replaced once at 60k miles
Turbo boost lines replaced at 60k miles
Turbos replaced at 74k miles

Those were the only problems I've had. Maintenance all preformed on time based on CBS data.

I think aug 06 built cars were a strong build. Despite the wastegate problem.

My n54 going strong

No he should look into if he still has warranty because his inservice date is 10/14/2008. That was a great pick up by the other members of this thread I might add. OP call BMW na to find out about your inservice date and if your still under warranty.
That is simple enough and takes all of 10 mins. If you are, the ball is in your court because all of your problems will fall under warranty. Again great catch of the inservice date guys.

Absolutely - we've got the forged internals that the newer builds don't. At this rate, though, I may never get to 74K miles before it's time for, oh, maybe a 3-series Gran Coupe or an M550D, if they ever bring those cars over here.

WTF how is your car a strong build with the problems you just listed ? Your turbos didn't even make it to 100,000. And also lets keep to the topic of this thread and not about how are own cars r doing. Didn't mean to come at you hard but 74,0000 miles on turbos is nothing to brag about.

It's not shabby, this isn't a 2.0t engine. Its high compression on small turbos but that isn't the point.

As for the foged internals, no one has verified that and no one has had any internal issues so ya.

But honestly, the 09+ is when bmw worked out most of the kinks even though you guys may not have had these problems

1.) Vanos issues
2.) Injectors
3.) Pulley hitting subframe
4.) Larger wastegate actuators even though this did nothing
5.) Coilpacks

The turbos themselves were not bad it was the wastegates, I had the old wastegate design. I would say considering the problems a lot of n54 owners on this forum have had I consider mine to be a strong build. Considering I don't baby my car and I do push it to its limits I still stand by my state that my car is a strong build.

You didn't come on strong at all. The op has been given tons of advice.

If this car really had a crack value cover and had a major leak, I have only one question, how much oil was on the ground. The oil would have made it way to the ground that is for sure.

As a number of you pointed out, this is not adding up for me. Here we have an 07 car which was not put in to service until late in 08, why what was the deal with this car. Want does in service mean it could have been a dealer demo or loaner for a while since as op said it shows the car being sold in 11.

I personally would demand to see the service history on the car that BMW keeps. since something does not seem right.

Also i will point out that around 48K miles and just a few months past the 4 yr mark I rand in to a problem with VANOS and it took BMW 5 week to figure out what the issue was and 3 visit of the BMW Engineer to finally fix the car. They said the total cost was close to $5k, but BMWNA pickup with little or no fight and then would never really tell me what they fixed other than to say the replaced the entire top end. take about the VANOS timing was off and the cam showing excessive wear. The tied to say it was due to low oil, However, I had on recorded that the low oil indicator kept show low oil even though it was not low, and I asked to have the oil change each year the the dealer refused since it was not showing it needed done, I forced them to change it.

Based on my experience, I think something in this car when wrong related to the VANOS it locked up and cause the engine to rip itself apart. They documented that the OP had a oil issue just in case this happen, sound like they were trying to get him past the 4 yr mark.

Look around ebay.

Here's one I found- $4,730 buy it now. That's 1/3 of the price. Comes with 6 mo warranty.

You do not have forged internals. This is a myth which continues bopping around the interwebz.

I am not debating this as I've never torn down an n54 engine. Nor do I care if it's forged or not but I feel my car is a strong build.

Interesting story and I wish the OP luck - sure looks like he is due something from BMW based on the in-service date of the car. That whole thing seems VERY fishy to me.

But one part of this story makes no sense to me at all. Regardless of how the serpentine belt is damaged, HOW could debris from it end up in the oil?? That makes no sense at all, the serpentine belt is entirely on the outside of the engine driving the accessories and in no way in any contact with the oil that I know of. I suppose it could be sucked into the intake somehow, but then the debris would have to get past TWO filters to actually enter the engine, and even then it is unlikely that anything would get into the oil sump.

I love the n54 cars. Great engine that has so much modding flexibility, and can last a long time if taken care of properly, not to mention a fantastic chassis.

I wish my n55 had such potential.

Yeah, same here. Not having any of the problems the LCI cars have encountered. I'm way past stock power levels as well, but I've got FMIC and OC upgrades, which may be why my car has stayed solid. That and I don't beat the hell out of it at a dragstrip every week.
