Hello, Thankyou for this great thread.

I'm picking up my new to me 2008 320D on saturday!

Just want to thank everyone who has posted. I've Spent a good 3 hours (on/off) reading this thread while at work! hahaha.

Dunno how many know this, but

You can run your car without your key even if you don't have comfort access.

1) Press Brake (+ Clutch) and press Start/Stop with key fob in.
2) Turn it off and remove fob while still holding brake (+Clutch).
3) Press Start/Stop button without key fob in

and your car will still start up. Theres like a 5 second window where you can start the car without the fob. I do this in winter if its very cold. Lock the car and let it warm up (or stay warm) outside if I'm just stopping for a few minutes.

You forgot to add...if you lock it from the inside (not with the fob), or if your doors are set to "autolock", the fuel door does not lock. I like that feature a lot so I don't have to unlock my car when I fill up with gas.

When your doors lock automatically when you reach a certain speed. They can all be set to do that.

One thing I learned recently is the cooling/warming feature for your drinks in the center arm rest. I kept wondering why it was so damn cold in there.

That's nothing yet.

People with later model 3-series (like me) read comments like yours, open their center armrest and see something that definitely looks like an air vent inside. They immediately conclude that they also have that "cooling/warming feature for the drinks" in their armrests.

Imagine their surprise when someone explains to them that this feature was removed from recent model 3-series cars. And the "vent" they see inside that compartment is actually a mere coin holder (!).

I felt like a dumbass-de-la-dumbass for a moment...

I know why you mean but the cars electronics can pulse the brakes way faster than you can and with greater control. Just mash the pedal and let the ABS do it's job.

The reset button on the A/C when pressed after the car is off will use residual heat from the engine to keep the car warm. It really helps out in the winter when you have to make a 20-30 min stop inside a place.

Attempts to pump the brakes on an ABS-equipped car will not "turn off ABS". It will most likely simply result in a bizarre mix of manual modulation interspersed with higher freq ABS modulation.

Turning off ABS in a typical car is usually achieved by pulling the corresponding fuse. Not really a smart thing to do under normal circumstances, assuming your ABS is operating properly.

Here in the states, more common among truckers, if you want to thank someone who just let you in, you flash your hazards 2 or 3 times.

I can confirm my 97 e39 also had this.
Recently with my 2010 e92 i discovered that it turned on the hazards after an emergency breaking to a complete halt (there were deers in the way). The car behaved
amazingly btw.

After parking (parallel) your car and turning it off. Push the flasher stalk down, for the left side lights on, or up for the right side lights on.
And the parking lights will stay on (low voltage) on that side. This is to light up the side of the car closest to the street, for your safety.
Not sure how long they stays on though.
Give it a shot, and see.

ABS will only activate if you wheel "locks-up". if you are able to avoid locking up the brakes (using the good old fashion "pumping" action), ABS will not kick in.

It was replaced by the "All" button around '09 or '10 as folks complained about having to set the temps separately for both sides. As a result, the "Residual Heat" function was discontinued.
