How to connect Microsoft Zune to a 335i coupe using BEST audio connection avaliable?

i still haven't decided on getting the ipod or the zune yet, i want a zune because it is a better unit for the price, and i am just wondering if i get a zune, do i have to connect the zune using headphone cables through the Aux input, or i can use something else, like a Zune output/USB cable?

Use a line out cable with your aux input if at all possible; it should turn out better than using the headphones output.

I believe Zune does not support USB mass storage access, so 6FL is out.

Don't use anything except the aux port as tintivilus says or you'll have poorer sound quality. Don't over compress either (minimum 196 kbps for a sound system like Logic 7). And for the sake of the $30 you'll save for a version 1.0 Zune, you'd be better off with an iPod for reasons of support and the fact that Microsoft never gets things right with its first try. You don't have to buy from iTunes. Just rip your CDs and load.

ya man, what tirana said. I'm not an apple kinda guy(have PC's, Xbox) but I'd take the ipod over the zune anyday. Especially since the Zune is so new and unproven. They'll take a while to get the bugs worked out.
If you're still set on it though, use a line out on the Zune(if it has one) instead of a headphone jack. The signal from a line out should be better than one from a volume adjustable headphone jack. HF jacks usually have resistors to control volume and that can cause noise.
A line out with a good RCA cable going to the aux in port would be a good solution. That's the setup I have for my ipod and I don't hear any noise in the system.
And like others have mentioned, high bitrate is good. 196 and above should be good enough for your car.

No...

I own both... a Nano and a Zune an I can say Zune is a better mp3 player. If only for the sole reason of the subscription service.

Not to mention the better screen and interface. (also scratch resistant)

But if you want to connect your mp3 player to a BMW... get an Ipod... zune isnt supported through the head unit and prob never will. You can still connect it through the AUX port if you want but I would prefer the ability to control it and see the song titles.

Bet you a beer that you can't playback your subscription (DRM'ed) tracks over a USB mass storage link, were you to hack in support

Old thread I know...but any update on this? My iPod got stolen not too long ago and I've been thinking of switching over to a Zune for my 2009 335i.

For me, it's more about the placement options than the player.... Placement = controllability = me being able to see what track is playing and advance it easily without taking eyes off the road.

Regardless of the player, get a Bluetooth audio connector for the aux input. That allows you to get clear sound through your speakers from anywhere around the car.

iPhone Bluetooth audio might be the perfect combo, if you can mount it somewhere. You can get a Bluetooth transmitter for almost anything these days too, allowing you to spend time solving the aforementioned placement problem/ priority
