Alpha is sort of an ego thing. Can be interpreted many ways. Like I'd consider your car to be alpha amongst something like an E46 M3. ALPHA in the sense it is not built as a strict performance car and the fact it still beats one in a straight line.

The title of this thread had me puzzled until I saw the pics. and the penny dropped.

Alpha traits to me are more applicable to the human animal as opposed to alpha in most of the animal kingdom as we cannot be sure of their powers of deduction, ability to pre-plan or whether they are self aware - even orangutans!

My perception of alpha traits in humans is probably way off the mark but based on personal observations. The muscular postering male from a certain social group can often be alpha male by pure physical appearance and gain 'dominance' that way and invariably have his 'admirers' of both sexes.

The more intellectual 'thinking' but less muscular alpha male can and does use his cunning, thought processes, powers of deduction etc to become dominant either in an aggressive manner or less so but possessing the ability to convince others that he is dominant and or seize opportunities as they arise.

The really dangerous ones imo are the 'street wise' with brains types - what a combo.

Alternatively the rugby physique with brains is well, rather nice............and that is my primeval side coming out.

I often find it more interesting to observe the behaviour of the 'alpha wannabees' rather than the alpha himself. An obvious postering alpha male can often be showing his insecurity depending on how it is being displayed. Of course there are always natural leaders - there has to be, we are social animals. It is the insecurities of the insecure wannabee that intrigues me more as being an analytical woman I want to fathom out why he is so insecure about himself. Shit we're complex creatures!

Perhaps you should give us your views on the Lake District meet and who is Alpha there... The observations I made from the Northern Meet were quite interesting on that point...
