Good morning, noticed couple of days ago oil on the drive. Investigated the car and noticed it has a leak. Hard to see Due to the large Under trays, but can just see a trace of oil on the underbody. It's a 57 plate 330i 45,000 miles full history with BMW extended warranty. Question is will the oil leak be covered by the warranty? I think it will but any advice would be welcome. Thank you

Could be leaking from anywhere. You need to get your car to a good indy, up on a ramp and remove the undertray to find the source. As for warranty cover...read the small print!

I've got an oil leak from the oil filter housing on a 335i under extended warranty.
When I asked a dealer they said it would not be covered if it was from a screw/plug but it is covered if its a seal Either way you probably want it sorted so I'd take it to a dealer but you might get stung for a diagnostic fee if its not covered |

Most of the time its the seal which fails.

Well went to the dealers and they have found the leak its from the gearbox and they class it as sweating! They dont think it will be covered under warranty! But on the other hand they tell me to fix it I need a gear box sump a gasket and a couple of other items. It's only a sweat apparently. I got a little heated to say the least with that. They are now going to check with the BMW warranty group. Is there a BMW tech on here that can explain this to me as front desk at steelers had no idea. Shocking!
Thank you |

Gearbox leak
Had exactly the same problem on my auto gearbox on my 07 plate 335i noticed a leak that looked like the sump gasket, turned out to be the mechatronics sleeve...
Although the sump gasket is a known fault on the auto gearbox's as there made of plastic they get very hot and warp leaving you with a leak,if it where me I would replace the sump also mechatronics sleeve aswell as oil and you should be good to go! I got all my parts from here http://www.incarmotorfactors.co.uk/en/1115607-bmw-3-series-e90-zf-transmission-oil-service-kit-bmw-6-speed-automatic-6hp19-21osk0.html# I'm sure that is all the parts you need..and it's all genuine parts! Good luck! Matt |

Thank you for the info. Sounds like the same problem as mines an auto as well. I shall do some sourcing. Whilst you had the problem did the gear box feel a bit lazy slow to change/respond? I thought nothing of that but now the gearbox has been identified, it's got me wondering.

Yes,
I lost a quarter of the oil, so the service desk said yesterday, they actually wrote oil leak on the paperwork as I got a look at that whilst they were describing the findings, but it's still a sweat according to service when they talk to me. Frustrating! |
