I am think it is because, BMW was not willing to correct the HPFP problem on the N54 engine, it effected all the series.
Just my 2 cents.

It is absolutely nothing to do with that. Most consumers don't even know what a fuel pump is, let alone that BMW has had this problem.
Mercedes has done well with the glk, new e-class, etc., and has been more willing than before to offer incentives and larger discounts.

ya - pricing is a big factor. not only is the msrp lower for a c63 and an m3 but there are better deals for the c63. they even had 2.9% on it for a while (it's higher now).

I think the main factor is that the 3-series (the volume car for BMW) is at the end of its product cycle and has dropped in sales. Once the F30 comes, BMW will be back on top.

I also think that MB caters to a larger demographic. Wether its more luxury focus than sport, more features for the price, better incentives, etc etc. |

Guy's got a point. The F30 will bring the sales backup like how the E90 brought BMW sales to the top in 2006. |

Who cares (except for the GM's of the companies). My car doesn't suddenly feel inferior to MBs on the road (quite the opposite). The C-class refresh will likely bump up sales too but there will be some killer deals on E9x this year as they prep for the F3x.
The German car companies are eating everyones lunch in this sector. |

I'm surprised to see Acura in 3rd place. With their recent styling, lack of 2-door, and their random ZDX - I rarely see them on the road. I used to see RSX, TSX, and TLs all over the place but the newest TSX and TL are rare. Maybe it's their low-cost CSX that's inflating the numbers.

I have friends and family who drive Audi's...they bash my 335i like no tomorrow saying there's nothing special about it...but what they don't see is the I got the car for the drive, not the special interior features that Audi has...when I drive a A4 or even a c350, I just don't feel the same way..BMW is a driver's car...I don't need fancy interiors and gimicks like 10 different levels of heat for heated seats (confusing feature in a Q5)..... |

Price is a HUGE factor. No idea what MB incentives etc exist but I got about $7,000 off my 335 coupe . I've had 5 Audis and this is the reason I switched. Discounts will end with new model.

I haven't get a chance to drive the new X3. I don't like the old model. But between GLK 350 and Q5, for sure Q5. Yes, the reason that I have Q5 is becase I have a kid or else I will stick with the 335i. My DD car (without kid) is a MINI which has even more driving charator then 335i that I used to drive and it is also my track car. I have to say for driving spirit, BMW FTW. For the enjoyment of the Luxury Interior, AUDI FTW.
