Waterpump and Thermostat E90 325i

Hey fellow e90post,

I recently had my car which started to overheated.So after I had taken to a Reputable shop they had told me my water pump thermostat.After all I knew it was my water pump because it's a common problem on the E90 325i's.Lastly,he had told me that pulley tesnienor belt needs to be replaced as well.Did anyone here also have that replaced?

Thank You

Our cars have electronic waterpumps and are not connected to a belt at all. I don't know why this guy is mentioning this, maybe he just noticed it needed an adjustment when he inspected your car. The two items are completely independent of each other.

How many miles u have? Eventually this tensioner needs to be replaced. So for the good price why not? Unless ur car is new, I dont see a reason to replace yet. It has been over 6 yrs on mine and tensioner still working ok.

The tensioner has two moving parts: the pulley and the tension spring. It is a very rare occurrence that the spring would break and fail. If it did the belt would fall off or at least squeal. Commonly, the pulley bearing will fail, but at 64K unless it is making noise, it looks like the dealer is selling an unnecessary repair. Just my opinion.

I Just Finished Doing This About A Week Ago!!!

E90 FREAK you need to hit me up brother. Like Volasko said we have an electric water pump. Whatever you do dont buy anything from the dealership except the 50/50 coolant which cost $27 (here in IL). Check out the DIY we have here coz thery're pretty legit. The thermostat and the waterpump are at the bottom of the car not too far from the radiator. My dealer her in IL (Knauz BMW) quoted me $2500 for parts and labor. Like I said follow the DIY we have here and if you need help let me know so I can walk you through it.

FYI I bought my thermostat from autozone for $171 and my waterpump from partsgeek.com for $315 including shipping handling and insurance.

E90 Water Pump question for the experts

Hello, I have a 2006 325i sedan that I just had the water pump, therm and flush done at the dealer, needless to say it wasn't cheap. To my surprise, when I got home I noticed on my invoice that the water pump is a 'remaufactured' part. I have also read somewhere on here I can't find now where, but read that BMW redesigned the pumps a couple of times since the intitial part put on the car due to the fact that they are prone to going out at any time. Does anyone know if the remanufactured part would have the redesigned ( better ) parts in it, or did I just get shafted ? does anyone have the orginial part number and the successors? I am really puzzled as to why a BMW dealer ship would install a remanufactured part vs new! Please help before I go back to them.

#11517546994 325i/330i 2004-2007;
#11517563183 325i/330i 2004-2007; 328i 2006-2009
#11517586925 325i/330i 2004-2007; 328i 2006-2012

I ordered the water pump t stat and bolts special for $475 from Tischer. When I received the parts, it all looked new. I checked the parts invoice after I installed the pump and it said remanufactured. Tishcher listed the part number for the pump as 11517586925. I'm also hoping that whoever remanufactured the pump, knows what pump part to upgrade to make it more reliable than the original pump.

I wrote to Tischer BMW regarding my invoice stating that the water pump was remanufactured. Here is their response.

Hey Brad, BMW lists all of their water pumps like that – but I assure you that they are all brand new units. We cannot order a remanufactured unit here in the US. I suspect that they may offer reman’d units in other markets, but not here in the US – so that’s why they are listed that way. All other reman’d parts that we have available(transmissions, starters, steering racks, etc.) carry a core charge/exchange process so that the old ‘cores’ can be collected by BMW so that they can remanufacture them. Not the case with any of their water pumps, as they are new.

Thanks again!
