Thanks for the info. I have dinan and this seems like a viable option for a little more power

The engine has to adapt now.

BTW, in case the BT cable torque readings are accurate, I got 450 bhp / 560 NM in fourth gear @ 5664 rpm, which has to be approved on a dyno. I had 402 bhp on the dyno without my DP modification ( welded 200 cell HJS metallic catalysts into the OEM DP's, got a special version of my ECU flash for them ) and the JB+ flash version. Sustained boost is 14.8 to 15.0 psi @ 40 DegF. Sounds feasible. Somehow .

Cheers,
Eugen

Hi,

What helped in the old PROcede V1 days seems to help nowadays as well .

I detached my car from the battery for over 1 hour to let the ECU adapt from scratch, of course with the ECU flash and JB+ installed.

Datalogs (BT) look good and the adaption is in progress. JB+ (flash version) has been stacked on Dinan, GIAC, EvoTech, Noelle and Daehler flashes AFAIK. No issues reported, everything works as it should. My ECU flash, based on Progman 34.x throws a tuner code, even without JB+, so get a BT cable to solve the problem. No other codes are thrown. The characteristics of my ECU flash haven't changed, what I like, the car simply pulls stronger.

I will continue testing my setup and dyno the car in spring 2010. I added approx 1.0 to 1.4 psi boost, which resulted in 15 psi sustained boost at 40 DegF. Expecting boost will raise at high altitude or hot ambient temperature I will be fine with 16 to 16.5 psi. Let's see how this all turns out.

Thanks for your support.

Cheers,
Eugen

Still EVOtech (Noelle, Daehler). AFAIK it's tested with Dinan and GIAC Stage 1 as well. Just keep in mind you need a special "flash" version of the JB+ (different map). The car is checked with the BT tool on a regular basis, no JB+ related codes or troubles.

hi Eugen,

why is a different version of JB+ needed? do you talk about one having smaller increases (so less boost) or?

Yes less boost increase, mine was i think max 2.5 psi and i run 1psi street and 1.5psi for racing and probably some other changes.

Its a custom unit that has finer boost adjustment and a lower maximum boost. A BT tool is a must with it though!

well the problem is that it increases boost throughtout the RPM band so if you add 1 psi it would boost 13 psi at redline which should probably work on meth but not on pump gas.

When I installed my JB+ first I dialed it in to ~ 50% and boosted around 16.5 PSI (sustained) in a 40 DegF ambient temps environment. The car has been very powerful, I loved it . Data logs looked good and the engine worked flawless. However, I have been told by Terry to dial it back and to start at lower levels, did so and it works pretty well. Now I'm looking forward to the Evolve Stage 3 flash (420 bhp, 425 lbft = 420 ps, 577 NM crank) with flash @ home capability. I use 95-96 octane AKI (100 octane RON) Shell V-Power gas. I have no issues with the engine, virtually no oil-burn at all and a very strong engine. No need for a piggy on my side. The BT-tool does an excellent job.

The great thing about a JB+ on top of a flash is that it only tricks the TMAP sensor, so the native programming of the flash tune is used to provide power (as the stock programming does).

This solution is not a band-aid, it just works VERY WELL .

So why can't you use the regular JB+ with Dinan? and not exceed the lowest settings?

^ No. They are intercepting the same sensor. You only can stack a JB+ on top of an ECU-flash ( GIAC, Evotech, BMW Performance flash etc. ). No SSTT, no PROcede, no JB2, no JB3, ...

I would suggest buying the Flash prepared JB+ from BMS and not tampering with any of the settings... I plopped mine right in and am more than happy with the results

I stacked my JB+ (50%) on my BMW PP. Works flawless, no codes, nice Power. Lag has completely gone .
