Meet the Dooper!

Well, I now have my Dooper, and here are some pics:

Really impressed by it so far. Just the right blend of comfort and fun, decent power from the diesel engine and cheap as chips to run. Nice interior too once you get used to the retro look (hated it at first but it grew on me) and the spec isn't bad either, as it has most of what my E93 had bar the electric roof and seats.

I'll miss the 3, but I think I'm going to enjoy this and my bank balance is definitely going to be a lot healthier!

Is Dooper the official name on the street for these or is it your derivative?

Either way, I think they look a whole load of fun on four wheels and it's a shame you've had to sell the 3 Series but for now needs must as you've said.

Personally, I'd bide your time and let the kids know at some point what you had to sacrifice for them..............now don't tell me there won't be occasions you'll gleefully rub it in.........I would

Enjoy the Dooper, it looks great!

I don't think the speedo is quite big enough.

Very flexible, pulls hard from low revs and feels responsive. Probably not quite as progressive as a 'true' BMW engine like the one in the 118d etc, but nor is it as peaky as a VW diesel. Decent engine note for a diesel as well, slightly sporty.

In short, even coming from a 325i it doesn't feel slow, and it its flexibility makes the car very easy to drive.

Dooper is the colloquial name for a Cooper D - not my invention!

Ironically, the speedo is in an annoying place right in the middle as it is some way from your normal line of sight.

However, speed is one of the options on the car's computer, and when you select it a digital speed reading appears on the screen in the middle of the rev counter (behind the steering wheel), so I rarely use the main speedo - I don't think many Mini owners do to be honest.

LOL - don't say that to a mini fanatic!

BMW are apparently dropping a proper 2.0 BMW diesel into the MINI, to create a Cooper SD (or DS) - so that will be a 'Super Dooper'

v.nice and bet it is a hoot to drive!. Still miss my missus' Copper S vert........

You do get used to the speedo and as you say, you can display it on the trip comp. They do a chrono pack which can move the speedo behind the wheel, or was that only for the older model?

Economy is rather unbelievable on those, I had one as a Courtesy car last year, driving with me, wife and 4 kids averaged 65mpg. Not bad power, bit noisy at pull off but a decent little car.

Are there any options to remove the quite frankly ridiculous centre speedo? It's nearly as big as the steering wheel!

Looks great from where I'm sat.

Oh, if that's you in the driving seat on the 3rd picture, may I suggest you get a cushion!!!

Sadly not, though if you specify the media pack with sat-nav the nav screen is in the middle of the circle and the speedo itself is then just the very outer ring.

Well spotted by the way.
