Picked up the Octavia vRS yesterday....

..... and I have to say that I am very pleased. It's clearly not a BMW and it will not be to everyones taste, but nothing touches it out there for value for money at the moment and it fuflils my remit of a decent, comfortable, good looking, sporty and economical car to a tee.

I waited 13 weeks for this car, factory order with just a few factory options; rear parking sensors, Media interface, full size spare wheel and upgraded trip/functional computer. I opted for white, my first white car, as the demonstrator I drove was white and it looked good. I ordered it via a broker who gave me the best price I could find anywhere for the car with the options - it included the current Skoda 'VAT free' offer and an additional Armed Forces discount. So, I paid £16,195 for it.

The 160 mile trip back home yesterday was very pleasurable. It is incredibly well built - better than the three month old Volvo V70 - feels very solid, accelerates effortlessly (170bhp and a fair bit of torque I guess) and it returned a wallet pleasing 56 mpg! The Skoda will be my daily driver from now on and I am looking forward to seeing how much more I get to like it! The boot is absolutely huge - not that I need that much space and the standard kit is also very good.

Anyway, a few (poorly taken) pics, I am having the driveway widened this week to accommodate 4 cars!

Lovely car Pete and glad you're pleased with it.

Yes, the boots are rather large are they not! You wouldn't believe what Mum gets in the back of hers!!

FWIW her Octavia 2.0 tdi is just over three years old, she's had it from new, doesn't drive with much mechanical empathy if you know what I mean, and that car has never let her down once. She has it serviced and that is it.

Hi Peter

I followed a 10 plate Octavia RS into the work car park last week, and was wondering.....it was an estate though and sort of le mans blue. Have you started working down south yet?

Looks good.

It drives as well as any BMW I have owned, although I am never one to push the envelope! The doors have a satisfying clunk when they shut and it feels exceptionally well screwed together. I haven't chucked it around any country lanes yet though.

It wasn't me, I was in the work car park (south one?) in the V70 last week (thanks to vocanic ash!)! I am working down south 1/2 days per week at the moment, flying down most of the time though, but will be driving once a month in the vRS as I will have some other places to visit.

Hi Peter, car looks great! There are a couple of white ones locally to me, a saloon and an estate and they both look good, especially with the bright white LED running lights that are fitted.

Echo above comments, would love to see some interior pics. How is it size wise compared to a 3 series? Bigger or smaller? As I mentioned before we are looking to replace the C5 with one later this year, but not 100% sure if it will feel small compared to the C5 which is cavernous! Another option for us is the Passat CC which I quite like in GT guise.

Enjoy the car Peter, and look forward to hearing your views on it as time goes by

It does look smart.

Petay, Did the front of your house use to be the garage?

I think that's a pretty fair guess Carlos.
Looks like a beautiful house/street.

Hi Peter, your new vRS looks great in white. The vRS is such good value for money with the same spec 320d M sport would be over £30k.

I share your skoda endorsement. We picked up our Yeti at the start of April and we are really pleased with it so far. It drives really well, handles far better than you would believe and has worked out as a good family car for us and 1 child. Skoda are such good value especially yours with the Vat free offer.

Enjoy your new Motor! Where are your working down south?

Nice looking car - I always liked the Octavia and nearly bought a vRS when they came out (but bottled it and bought an E91 instead).

I have noticed a few people slow down when I am on the motorway when they approach, I think a few Police Forces have white vRSs - certainly Staffordshire do. Wearing a white shirt with a black tie only adds to their confusion that I might be a copper!

I reckon that it is much roomier than a 3 series, certainly the boot is carnaverous! rear leg room is probably better too. It is probably somewhere between a 3er and a 5er in dimension and space terms. I like the Passat CC too, it has real presence. The cost compared to the Octavia though is significant.

List price is about £20500, but with the current 'VAT Free' offer it comes in at about £17500.

On the basis of "if you can't say anything nice then say nothing" I didn't think I'd be commenting on this thread, but now I've seen it I think it looks great.
