Keep netbook and bt tool in car 24/7
So with hpfp problems a possibility, I cant just have bmw tow me to the dealership with a jb3 under the hood. So I thought that Id get a super cheap netbook and a bt tool and keep them in the car.
If anything happens, I take out of the jb3, clear the codes and get towed to the dealership. The only other thing Id have to change is the dci. Id request that the dealership doesnt work on the car that day or give me time to take some stuff out of it or something and Id run home, get the stock airbox and bring it back. Hopefully no dealership dealing with a hpfp will give a dci a hard time anyway. Im sure lots go to the dealership with a dci. Thoughts on this?

Netbooks can be had for less than $300. Bt tool is $270. So for around $400, you have a mobile code clearing and logging machine.

Sounds like a good idea. I would take your stock air intake with you just in case. Then you would not have to run home if the dealer gives you a hard time.

AAA takes forever to come most of the time. Not sure how they compare to BMW assist in response time. If BMW assist tows your car straight to the dealer, how do you get home? Is it confirmed they will not tow your car home? I want to chip my car, but i would rather stick with a JB+, and avoid tuner codes and ease of removal just in case.

I did not think AAA would to it to your home either. As far as I know, they have to tow it to a shop or gas station. Let me know if I am wrong.

AAA Texas:
"Towing Service When a vehicle cannot be started or safely driven, the vehicle can be towed to the independent service provider’s facility, no matter how far away, at no charge to the member. Not all independent service providers provide repairs at their facility. If you choose to have the vehicle towed to a location other than the independent service providers facility:
A member must be present when the vehicle is delivered to a closed repair facility. Towing beyond the benefits described above is at the member's expense and may be subject to delay. " Check the policy for your state...

AAA is dirt cheap considering all the benefits. I keep my membership active, even with Roadside on the BMWs. Just in case I'm in another car or with friends and something happens. Can't remember exactly what I pay, but I'm pretty sure it's under $50/yr and that includes a bunch of towing miles. Plus the little extra benefits here and there make it even more worth it.
