bug in iDrive routing algorithm: default route is 35% slower than 1st alternate route
I'm reporting an iDrive nav routing bug to BMW through my dealership. Does anyone else have such an extreme example of poor route selection? It seems clear to me that the CIC routing algorithm is bad at handling certain types of routes.
Anyway, here's what I asked the dealer to forward to BMW: Routing from the Raleigh, NC area to Corolla, NC. iDrive is configured to select the fastest route. It defaults to a route that is 35% slower than the direct route. In route preferences the direct route is offered as an alternative route. I believe it is a bug that iDrive does not default to selecting the 35% faster direct route. |

I've had a few intances where it has not given me the actual fastest route as well, but most of the time it is correct.

I've noticed the same thing. My Garmin gives me more accurate routes.

It's not a bug, the nav routing on my 09 sucks and makes no sense no matter what setting such as dynamic on or not and all that other stuff. My 07 nav routing was alot better, as is the nav on my 09 x5 with old idrive. I have tested this with HD based nav systems on other BMW's I have had as loaners and it just sucks. The last one I had couldn't even plot a fast rout to my dealer fron 2 miles away. It plotted a course that was 5+ miles!

Just picked up my new 2011 335 xDrive Coupe w NAV and found the same thing happening. Glad I watched your video as I didn't realize it would give me alternate routes (hopefully quicker). I've had Garmin for years and nothing seems to come close.

And in Phone mode, how do you delete phone numbers from Phone Book even after I deleted numbers from my Blackberry? Looking for expert advice.

Contact is came from your phone via BT and on my iDrive - this is only Phone Numbers Favorites - it's when you decided to save your Mother-in-law address to your navigation, that your never forget. Every time you pair you cell phone with BMW BT, your address book from the phone download to your iDrive. If delete number from phone - this number should not show up on contact list. Let say it there - navigate to this number with fob on central console - high-late and select "Delete" from pop up menu.

It's more to do with the maps than to do with iDrive. Blame TeleAtlas, or BMW's contract that agrees to a super-crappy version of their maps/routing. I don't see how "Efficient" route is efficient most of the time!

If you ask some posters, then no; but I still think that when they update your nav (MY2009+), they update the routing, too. My nav was updated and the routing changed on roads that did not change.
