DIY Question: 335 E92 Gear Knob Removal

Sorry if this is not the place to pose a DIY question.

I have read in one post in order to remove the shift knob on the 335i E92 you simply put it into 2nd and pull up (making sure not to punch your face).

I have done this and IT WILL NOT COME OFF.

I have a 2008 335i. Is there something different about how this particular knob is attached that I am unaware of?

I want to put the short shift knob on.

just pull harder....give a good one hard choke pull...it should come off

Yep...just pull REALLY hard...and I just bruised the shit out of my right peck....but it is off now!

. I know I cut my hand when it flew off and I scraped it on something. It happened so fast I dont even know what I cut myself on as I noticed bleeding a minute later.

mine came off with really no problems at all... reading all the posts here I pulled it way too hard. Just put your feet on the dead pedal, put car in 2nd gear and pull up. No resistance at all. Maybe I am just too strong

Does twisting the knob slightly while pulling ease this task a bit or is that a no-no? Usually for press fits like that, twisting helps.

Naw don't twist it. After you finally get it removed, if you look into the bast of the knob you'll see that there's a slit in there that's designed so the knob won't twist. lol

Just literally pull the shyt outta it. I think it's designed to be super tight so you geet angry and pull even harder.

Yes, the slit would cause a problem with twisting. lol
