Know anything about Dash cams?

I'm looking to maybe get a dash cam installed due to a number of reasons:

Evidence for insurance claims
Personal enjoyment of watching back fast driving, track days and street driving

I know hardly anything, but from my limited research i have narrowed it down to 3:

DOD LS300W £149 - With WDR
DOD LS330W £132 - Update of above with optional GPS attachment
DOD LS430W £139 - Update with built in GPS and WDR.

Link: http://dod-tech.co.uk/onlinestore.html

Does anyone have any more info on these, or maybe better alternatives?

People rave about Blackvue and Roadhawk mate, they are too expensive for what they are though, keeping my eyes out on eBay to see if one appears for a good price

These one's I haven't heard about, will look them up, they seem a good alternate option

I think £150 is the max i'd pay. I've looked at the video from these cams and they all appear very good quality, even at night. Don't really require anything else, apart from the GPS logger which would be nice to have a record of speed, but not essential.

Video sample for LS300W: http://dashboardcamerareviews.com/dod-ls300w/

Out of interest, say you get stopped for speeding by a copper, but they have no evidence. Can they use the dash cam footage as evidence?

Apparantly the LS300W has the best day/night video quality out of the 3, but the LS430W is not far behind and comes with a built in GPS logger. Edit: Just realised the video quality of the LS430W is the same as the LS300W.

Does anyone have any more info on these, or maybe better alternatives?
Bit defender is suggesting that their website is not safe.
Not being funny but I would not buy any of these. Their shapes are deformed buddy.
Have a look at blackvue....looks like a good product.

I'll have a look at blackvue then mate.

To be honest the shape doesn't really look too bad to me. Bit strange why the website is showing as strange as its the official manufacturers website. Is it definitely dodgy?

Had a look at the blackvues. For the same spec as these they cost around £250 plus. Also do they loopback the recording?

Another one to consider - Mobius, gets good reviews [Ebay item no: 151074120313]

All Dash cam's these days do loop back recording mate, Blackvue does too

Thanks Rudz. That looks good, much smaller than the ones i was considering. And cheaper. Just need to decide if its better at night or not compared to the above.

Just realised no GPS

I'm also looking for a Dash Cam & have been having a look at the Forum "Dash Cam Talk":

http://forum.dashcamtalk.com/index.p...c61b678e77d795

It's all a bit deep but makes some interesting reading, I was all set to buy the new Blackvue DR550GW twin camera setup (front & back) till I read the reviews on there

I have a couple of Blackvue 380 hd's- very nice piece of kit and quality is pretty good.

Think you get what you pay for with dash cams.....you can set it to record 1,2 or 3 minutes of footage and once the memory card is full it starts to over-wright the recordings, unless it saves it as an "event" which means it won't be over written, it has shock sensors so if you have a bang, or drive down a pot hole it saves it.

All of the above features are available on the cams in my OP, for half the price. My budget is £150.

Plan is to read that forum Ian kindly linked, and try and find out if they are a good buy.

Check out Techmoans YouTube video of the latest cam he's tested (there have been a lot), he's decided to permanently keep this one in situ.

That guy is very good at reviewing stuff!

Just watched the whole video. Looks like a really good small cam which can be hidden away. Works out to roughly £100 delivered with the GPS attachment.

My only gripe is the video quality. I have watched clips on both youtube and his personal drop box. It just doesn't seem as clear as the DOD LS430W clips, which i've only seen on youtube (where the quality will appear worse due to encoding). The video at day and night looks so much better on the LS430W; more vibrant and smooth:

Mini 0801 Day:

Mini 0801 Night:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r21nnz6ex...ight%20Time.TS

LS440W Day:

LS430W Night:

Is it just me or does the clip from the LS430W look better?

I wish this guy would review the LS430W.

The DOD LS430W looks good for the price but why on earth are they making Dash Cams the same size & shape as regular cameras, they don't lend themselves to being hidden easily & there aren't any bit's of the e90 screen that are obscured so I'll be interested to see how you fit one

I have been looking at cams for this type and other type of 'stuff' I do a lot of canoe and kayak, also ride a motorbike, so been looking at a all in one sports type cam that I can use. Now I know budget is the big factor, yet this is where i am at with it currently as want something before the year end.
I have looked at dozens of different cams and the one I like as an all rounder for what I require is the Drift HD Ghost, for me its waterproof out the box to 3m, it comes with mounts, the reviews give it the longest battery life, you can rotate the lens so mounting angle does not matter and the range of mounts is fast. They are now also adding apps so you can view on your phone/tablet view wifi (with a slight delay) also has a remote button for pressing record.
They were priced at £300.00 on average, yet just come down to £250.00 (maybe a new model due) and if you shop around you can find sites at that rate and a 10% discount code, believe me its a lot of universal kit for the money.
Maybe over the top, maybe not.
