First time at the track with the D.
Hi, yesturday i have made some pass with the 335d at Napierville Dragway.
My best time was 13.4 @ 104 mph. My car have JBD set @ 100% 1st pass, 13.7 @ 103 mph (2.26 60ft) 2nd pass 13.5 @ 104 mph (2.22 60ft) 3nd pass 13.5 @ 102 mph (2.11 60ft) 4th pass 13.4 @ 104 mph (1.98 60ft) 5th pass 13.8 @ 102 mph (2.16 60ft) 6th pass 13.5 @ 103 mph (2.12 60ft) The track was very cold and the car slip even in 3rd gear. (slip a lot more than in the street). Very difficult to make a good 60". All car have a lot of difficulty to hook up at the line. I am sure with a sticky track, 13 flat would be possible but i really want the car to do at least mid 12 sec...and 107-109 mph... Now its time for more mods. (Meth or a little of nos for the track day. Who have fast 335d in US or Canada ? I really want to put more power as i plan to hit the track at least 1 time/week... My trap speed were the same (103), but my times were 14flat with a 2.2 60ft. Then again I raced in 80% humidity and 90f temps on stock RFT's.
The fastest 335d I've seen I think ran a 12.8, not sure the trap speed though. He had DR's, own meth kit, JBD and I think an evolve tune as well. TDwise I believe his name is.

I don't see the point of adding more and more power when you'll be increasing the difficulty of applying that power with our stock open differentials.

Its not that hard to put the power to the ground. in fact, its one of the easiest car i have seen. The rear suspension on my sport 335d make and excellent weight transfer. Yesturday the track was very slipery, all car (even the 4wd STI) have trouble making under 2.0 on the 60ft. I have beat a Mustang Boss 5.0 that have run 13.5, but he have 116 mph. He have touble to put the power to the ground but not the 335d. On a sticky day he can run close to 12 flat.

Was able to hit 109.7 mph in the 12.6's last fall with the one and only attempt of the day. This was with drag radials. Previous trip to the track utilizing Mich PSS and having a really strong headwind only netted 13.1. The PSS's couldn't handle the launching torque. Both wheels would spin and I went sideways if I wasn't careful :-) Have done some things that I'm hoping will further improve the performance at the strip. Hope to test when it opens again in about a month. Oh, this was with the stock differential, stock intercooler, DPF in place, etc. The cars electronic LSD (it's still present with all the traction nannies off) works very well for straight accelerations and will lay down two black strips with the stock diff on my Mich PSS's. Best wishes on your next track event! |

Can you tell me what is your exact meth and tune set-up ? I really want to make my d a steady mid 12 sec car. I also plan on running a 50-75 shot, but i prefer only turbo forced induction if possible. Thanks for your reply ! |

I suppose it's all in how you define the word "tracking" then. On a dedicated track course, an LSD would help immensely. Under that scenario I wouldn't even bother with our open diffs.

Absolutely ! For lapping our open diff is not good. I will try it in a few week at Shannonville but i dont expect to much... For straight line, my car always left 2 long black line.

Napierville is not a well prepared track even on the best days. I've only ever seen them apply VHT out to 300' at most and the launch pad could be stickier.
Sanair isn't any better either. You'll never set your best time at any tracks around Montreal. |

Lsd + meth but i have meth and removed it yesterday because I'm afraid of rusting parts on the inside of engine. If I would have lots of guts, I would run 100% meth but I'm afraid about that too :~
