I understand where you're coming from. I, too, had the desire to get myself an M5 ... so one day I drove my 550i to a BMW dealer and came home with a new M5. In a nutshell, an M5 is basically a show-off, look-at-me car. Sure it has 5 seats, but it has no financial practicality whatsoever ... gas every 2 days averaging 10-11 mpg, sky high monthly payments, big on insurance, pricey 10w-60 oil at $12/qt, new rear PS2s every 6k-7k, etc. But my best memory? The trumpet blare of the V10 at 8000 rpm through Dinan pipes ... major chills. Lived it, loved it. Would I do it again with the newer M5? No. My 335 is the best balance of practicality and performance without destroying the bank account the way the M5 did. I can't imagine how much worse that would be had I kept it past warranty having to pay crazy money for brakes, plugs, trans/diff fluid service, even SMG repair.

Disagree........I think the MPG should scare you off. Specially if you do any sort of decent daily driving back and forth to work. In the city traffic the M5 is an absolute pig when it comes to gas mileage.

I recently traded my E60 545i after owning it for 5 years. It was a gas guzzler with that 4.4 liter V8. However in comparison to M5 it was far better with regards to gas mileage.

To OP, an E60 M5 is a super nice sedan but it will be costly to maintain out of warranty.

Seriously, this YOLO stuff sounds moronic........a good way of justifying ignorant thinking by mostly teenagers.

It blows through gas and oil no doubt, I guess my point was just that in terms of costs, for that car gas is the least of your concerns. The motor and tranny will eat you alive long before the gas bill does.

I should mention that I live out in the country in a town of 5500 people and its almost totally flat. In my 335i I average 26.4 with a lot of mods and a lot of spirited driving. I really dont ever goto seattle which is 2 hours away.

So I was hoping the m5 could average 16 mpg. I DD my duramax half of the week and its lifted on 38s and it gets around 15 mpg out here

Im looking at a white 08 M5 With red interior 23k miles for 43k with 6 months left on warranty

Or a black 07 with red interior with 60k miles for 35k im leaning towards the white one due to miles. And they are both 6speed manuals. No smg for me. I do plan on keeping the 335i for fun

I have always lusted for an M5 or M6 also with the V10...but one time reading about the caveats in buying a used one in an issue of CAR magazine published in England...they stated to be careful of any with auto....as after using the launch button 3 times..the trannie is toast.....ouch!!

I can understand why you would want an m5 or m6, that v10 is simply a work of art. But if you "itching" to buy one ask yourself if you bank account or wallet is "itching" to be open for fuel and repair cost, but honestley I think you'll be alright because you said you can afford it and your keeping your 335i, plus if the m5 gives you problems you'll always have the 335i for backup. Post pics if you get in man!! And be sure to get a PPI.
