Howdy. I just bought some Axis Rev wheels in 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 sizes.

Do I need to use any type of spacers or extra hardware? I'm looking for form<function.

What tire sizes would be all around best? I was looking at Pilot Super Sport tires in sizes 225/40/18 and 255/35/18. Do those sound perfect or is there a better size?

I was planning on getting an alignment as well with the new setup. I wanted something essentially stock but with a hint of added sportiness.

On my Subaru that meant a little positive caster and a little negative camber but I'm clueless on the BMW.

Without offsets we can't say if you'll need spacers for the wheels to sit flush or not.

Offset is 35 and 40

I was hoping to avoid the style where the wheel lip extends far past the tire. Just looking for a stockish setup with a hint of sportiness

Those are going to look pretty sunk in with the smaller rim and higher offsets you purchased. I would recommend spacers for the new set up to get a better look

So the spacer would push the wheel away from the car and essentially give it a wider base for more stable handling? What is the most conservative setup with spacers you think? I only have about 1/2 inch of gap in the rear so I can't do anything that would jeopardize my wheels rubbing. I'm going for function>form

Those offsets are fine. Don't listen to all the hellaflush stance homos that will tell you to keep pushing the limits.

I would use 225/40 and 255/35. As for alignment I use the stock settings for nice, even tire wear.

If I were trying to get a tiny bit more handling response would I just want a hint of extra negative camber all around?

I thought spacers helped with handling and don't look hellaflush if you get small ones?

I think a 235/40/18, 265/35/18 will look/perform better on a 8.5 and 9.5.

Can't comment on the offsets, but recently put snow tires on 18"x8.5"/18"x9.5" Avant Garde M359 wheels for my 335is, which I believe has the same suspension and brakes as the sport package 335i. Went with 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 tires. After a week of normal driving on smooth and rough roads have not experienced any rubbing. The fitment is a little more flush than stock without looking too Fast n' Furious in the company parking lot.

I'm leaning towards 235/40 265/35 now. I don't want any exposed wheel lip. Hopefully they fit nicely! I only have about a half inch of gap in the rear currently with my 18x8.5 255/35 setup. I hope the bigger wheels and tires fit!

For the longest time, everyone listed tire sizes to be used with the staggered wheel setup (8.5 & 9.5) as 225/40 & 255/35 - Tire Rack STILL lists these as the recommended sizes...

Why are vendors now listing the 235/40 & 265/35 as the sizes to use?
