I just set out the new CANbus firmware to a handful of beta testers. Once they give me the go-ahead, we'll post it online. We'll also put up the online order link for the CANbus wiring update (basically two wires that plug into your rev.2 pnp harness) later this week. Just give my a few more days to wrap up loose ends

i think he means to use the canbus in order to deactivate the tire pressure monitor warning light for people who have changed their wheels so they dont need to get new tpms. for people who live in the northeast that change their wheels in the winter it would save them money. i think there like 150 for a set of 4 monitors.

nevermind

shiv is it possible to somehow also deactivate that annoying seatbelt dong with the canbus integration. i know its for safety and all but those rare moments when i dont put one on, i could really do without the dong.

I guess anything is possible since all the CANbus networks are connected together. But I don't think I'll be doing this kind of stuff. We really intend to just stick with engine/tune related functionality. Safety related items are just to iffy for us to touch

I am for this 100%. This would totally justify the price, hands down, even without a tune hahahaah

it is my plan to learn CAN specification as part of my senior project (using the PIC18, same chip as the JB tunes, i think). while some other conditions should probably be met (speed under 10mph, etc), i think this is easily feasible.

i agree that it is out of the scope of an engine tuner like procede tho...

Shiv,

Can we get into the data recorder so that my car can't testify against me in court in the event of airbag deployment? I hate the privacy implications of the car telling on me (throttle, brakes, speed) after an accident.

Yeah, say if i put new wheels on but didnt put TPMS in them..the message will pop up on Idrive AND the gauges. This will pop up everytime you start the car and i think while driving. Can you do soemthing through the canbus to turn that off?

I think he probably has more important things to focus on that you not buying TPMS sensors for your new wheels.

Shiv-

Will there be ANY differences compared to the older REV 2 with the new canbus harness (about to be released) versus the new REV 2 that are currently being shipped? or completely identical and compatible with all the new features about to be released

it will be 100% identical once the two wires are installed into the harnass!

He's said they are exactly the same save the harness, and that you can just upgrade the harness and be good to go with the new features.

yep this is the internet. Doesn't mean you should ask an engine tuner to modify the cars operations because you were too cheap to purchase wheel sensors (which are a good safety feature to have!). Thats not nearly as bad as the guy who asked Shiv to turn off the seat belt warning chime.
