Removed oil cooler vent, any problems?

So my tires were rubbing on the vent, I removed the oil cooler vent and instead of rubbing at full turn to the left, I now have another 2inches of room.

I put a mesh grille over it to protect it from large rocks, but should I be worried about anything else?

I'd more concerned with wtf happened to cause a non interfering set of components to start interfering.

The idea to remove the vent came from other members who have done it, but I just wanted to double check to make sure i dont screw anything up.

I am pretty happy with my wheel/tire setup right now so I don't plan on changing it.

Only risk is large debris damaging the core, which can cause some more serious oil control problems. If you have mesh, you should be fine.

The screen should prevent damage, but - unlike the louvers -- may let fine grit through that in time could clog up the cooler and affect its efficiency.

However, so long as you clean it out periodically (as should be done for all the heat exchangers), you should be fine.

Thanks I'll try that if it rubs anymore. I took a look at it today and my tire only rubbed on the lower right bolt. I tightened it and it seems to be clear of the tire for now.
