private reg transfer question
Hi
I just bought a plate form the DVLA with my initials for £250, which included the £80 fee. Instead of having the number transferred to a car I had it retained onto a v570 (i think). Do i need to pay a extra £80 to transfer the number onto a car or does the £250 fee include this? |

So if you paid for retention, you should not be looking to pay any further to transfer it to your car.

When I bought a plate a few years back (from RegTransfers) I couldn't simply put it straight into retention; it had to go on a vehicle first (to complete the transfer of owner?) and then go on retention. As both mine & my wife's cars already had private plates on I was stuck. In the end it went onto my Dads car, then into retention, it's now in his name with me as a nominee, so when he keels over it'll flick to my ownership - what a faff!! The annual retention document still goes to my Dad for him to pass to me & make payment!

If purchased from DVLA it will have a 12 Month time limited either has to be assigned to a vehicle within that time or £25 charge to extend for another 12 Months
