Question Rack and pinion or not?

Just bout a 2009 335i xdrive the other day and after going over a small pot hole my suspension and steering wheel started to feel like it was tightening up not immediately after but hours later. I brought it to BMW and they said all this stuff needed to be replaced, R&P and U-Joint...anyone have any advice on this before I spend 2k on a rack and pinion?

Can anyone help me here? The mechanic at BMW had said that sometimes the U-joints do go bad so it may be functional after he replaces the joint but he cannot tell unless he replaces the U-joint first...so hopefully its just the U-joint

find an independent mechanic for a second opinion, or you can check it out for yourself. if your rack isn't leaking, then there shouldn't be a reason to replace it.

if the rack has a problem, it is much cheaper to get it rebuilt than replaced.

conclusion- if you leave the car at bmw, it will eventually get fixed at a high $$$$
