Quality means the choice of materials used, the driving dynamics of the car, how the car is put together.
Quality is something that say a BMW has, and Toyota not so much. Reliability in this sense is therefore different from quality. Although at times these two words can be used interchangeably, however, in this case they differ. EDIT: my car has given me a lot of trouble, VCG and filter housing leak, starter went out. Even with all these problems, it is definitely worth it for me since the car is such a blast to drive. I would take an ultimate driving machine any day over a civic/corolla that perhaps wont give me problems until like 200k kms.

If I was in your situation, I would probably complain and yell too but a 75k mi turbo car that is 6-7 years old no matter BMW Audi or Mercedes will cause trouble. Gotta pay to play. Goodluck though!

You can remove the intake manifold to make things easier or it'll take just a tad bit longer with it in the way.

Not worth going to the dealership just for those repairs because they charge like $150 per hour and that sounds about right at that kind of mileage, but the indy shops I know will do those repairs for a little over or even under $500 each.
Also these are easy DIY repairs if you have the tools and time to do this. |

My sealing sleeve was also leaking. I bought a new sleeve, a new tranny pan and filter, plus new tranny fluid for: Parts: ~$200 Labour: $50 My buddy had the same issue and replaced only the sleeve for about $50 only. $984 is beyond ridiculous.

If you had your car for a month is there any type of warranty on your vehicle from the dealership you purchased it from? The gasket leak is it leaking from the valve cover or leaking from the oil filter housing? Also for future reference buying bmws are like buying windows operating systems; You never want to buy the first version because it full of bugs. 2007 was the first year of the N54 platform. I am in same boat as I bought 2006 330i n52. Alot of issues have been worked out but some have only been identified and still plague the platform. Ps how is you seatbelt hander thingy? That thing seem flimsy as hell to me. |

My 2003 540i was at the dealer the other day and was quoted 6000 worth of work lol... Took it to my Indy shop and the final bill was 1800 :-) never take the car to dealer to be fixed outside of warranty work.

If the Oil Filter Housing is leaking must likely is the Gasket which cost only $11.58 and is relatively easy to change. I changed mine on my 330i and only took me 2 hours and that because was my first time ever working on a BMW and i was watching the video from youtube(DIY) at the same time. So Oil Filter Housing leak cost me around $15.00 and 2 hours of my time. I think BMW repairs are not expensive at all if you are willing to DIY. I fixed multiple stuff in my car for less than $20.00 each. Any car you take to a dealer regardless to brand is going to be expensive some time worth more than the car itself. ex. my brother has a civic 2001 all beat up and the transmission failed the dealer quoted him $2k for repaired when i dont think the car is worthed $2k with 150k+ miles on it. So if you going to get a nice car better learn how to work on it if you don't want to spend a lot money on repairs otherwise get a toyota corolla!!

It was, without question, the most unreliable and poorly screwed together car I have ever owned. My MG is more reliable than that Corolla.

BTW I've replaced the HPFP (400$), 1 injector (30$), 6 coils (110$), 6 spark plugs NGK (120$), the serpentine belt (100$), housing gasket (150$), Oil level sensor (150$)
Those prices actually include labor, and all the parts are OEM and new. If I were to go at my local dealership, they would have propably raped me.

I bought my 07 335i at 48k and now I'm at 66k a bit over a year later and haven't had any major issues. But from reading around here I've mentally prepared myself for whatever will potentially go wrong and remind myself how much I love the car everytime I drive it. But I also recall how many other cars I test drove that I did not have any interest in owning. I think it can be quite a shock (and aggravating) if you don't have any idea what to expect as repairs can creep up on you very quickly (had a disastrous '03 C320 at 110k before this). Knocking on wood but I know that some big bills will come eventually. But since it's running fine now I'll keep going with it and try to maintain it as well as possible!
