Why buy new ? Plenty of lightly used examples about, maybe not so many 330d manuals but the savings could be huge.
Especially with the new models coming around soon depreciation on a new car is going to be a bit painful. |

Now I think about it, +1 on that. But if you have paid the deposit already, you are pretty much committed. |

But as others have said, I would still add the USB option 6FL. |

You can ask for deposit back. deposit is not a legal obligation to buy. Even easier if you have done so less than 14 days ago (cooling off period) |

I wish you well. I picked up a 330D manual 08 plate E93 in February as I previously had a 320D coupe. I love the new motor in which I mostly do motorway driving regularly getting 47 mpg. The difference in power and comfort in the two cars I still cannot get over.
Which ever you choose just enjoy |

Hi. Thanks for all your comments chaps. I know I'm going to get done on the new car purchase but I'm wanting to get a new car just once. And also I want to have 3 years of stress free motoring - and I'm getting the 5 year service pack.
I'm sticking with the manual, getting the HK and staying with the m sport. Going from the s5 (which went today - very emotional) I need to keep the sport looks and ride for now. I'll go with the SE next time as totally see the argument for speccing up an SE. Also, given this will be the one time I go totally new I should spec it exactly how I want it. I want to keep this 3-4 years if poss as big house move on the cards over next coupe of years. Couple more questions is that's ok: 1) how miles do you get from a set of rear tyres? 2) do you all have a set of winter tyres too? I see BMW are doing a set for £1400 at the mo. How do you all deal with our current snowy winters? When it arrives, mid-July hopefully, I'll post up some pics. Phil |

2) I had a set of winter tyres on the 335 and have a set for the M3. Cheaper to buy a set of second hand OEM's and new tyres (you may even find find someone selling a complete set). Personally, I wouldn't run a BMW in winter without the right tyres.

You mean buy a complete set of alloys on eBay and then buy the winter tyres?
Do you recommend any particular type for use with the BMs? Coming from an Audi Quattro background I've never had to worry about winter tyres luckily. |

Lots of options for the Tyres. I've got Vredestein Wintrac Extremes, they're very good and have a lot of positive feedback on here.

Nice car, pleased to see you have gone for the manual IMO the right choice and will always be desirable 2nd hand so don't worry. Nice spec I have the HK on my mini and Although not comparable a massive upgrade over the already upgraded boost system that is part of the chilli pack. Like your spec but I would also add heated seats to go with the leather.

Well done on finally making your mind up; I'm sure you won't regret not getting an auto, the manual box is a belter.
As Ed says, get a second set of alloys (don't have to be the same as your regular wheels), ebay or there's usually plenty in the classifieds here (when people change their car), and grab a set of winter tyres to fit. Don't leave buying the tyres too late as they quickly run out of stock and the price increases accordingly. Warning: the bigger the alloy you get, the lesser choice of winter tyres available, so buy early or get a smaller alloy to widen the choice. When winter approaches (below 7 degree being the critical temp) just switch over the full set of alloys then switch back again, in March usually, once the temp rises again. Winter tyres aren't just for snow, their softer compound works better than RFT below 7 degrees full stop.

Hi
I tried the business ( alphine on my car ) compared to standard it is alot of improvement , i never tried the HK but i think the settings on Idrive and so many speakers are appealing , worth to try it yourself to be honest. Another suggestion is that i would suggest ADDING the lumber support!! I hate my car without it as the seats can cause pains when you want to sit as flat and as low as possible. |

Minstry, will def be interested. PM when you're ready to sell with price, tread depths and what the code means!
My word, choices choices. I've already specced heated fronts (BMW don't do rear heated which I think's a bit weird) and extended storage (the seat nets and rear cup holders). Not thought about the lumber supports but read a couple of posts which mention they're a good bet. I might pop in and check it out. At this rate I might swell just spec the full electric seats! Sunroof. May be a step too far. I've set myself a budget for this and at the moment I'm at the risk of smashing it and ending up ticking all the option boxes! One thing I've been thinking about though is the tv function. Just thinking that given I'll prob be driving London to Mancs on a Friday evening I might get stuck in traffic and might want to catch up on a bit of tele. Although, am I right in understanding that the prof media will play a standard DVD? So I could do that. So yes, tv prob not worth it. Unless someone can say it's unbelievable? Thanks for the good comments on the manual box. Hopefully it'll add to my enjoyment and then also appeal to someone when I come to sell it on in 3 years or so time. That's why I'm agonising over the spec so much. It MUST be spot-on given the time I'll be keeping the car. |

I'll keep you posted regarding the tyres, MV3 is the alloy style, search google images for "bmw mv3" you'll see what they look like.
I have the TV in my car, and handy when waiting for people or if you end up having lunch in the car etc, However it only works when the car is stationary and in park, not sure how this works in a manual. but using it in crawling traffic isn't really what it's designed for as the screen switches off the second you start moving. (That said I'm sure there is a mod to enable video in motion) An option I'd consider if doing a lot of motorway miles is the active cruise. It has some quirks but i think it works really well. Personally I'd take this over a TV, but it's not a cheap option. |

The TV / DVD in the manual only works with the handbrake on but you can still get the sound in motion. There are hacks available to get video in motion but I personally think it's a bad idea. For me, the TV was a waste of money - everyone oohed and ahhed when they came out to look but I rarely used it.
Plenty more useful options IMO. BTW, my e92 was only a 320i but I got nowhere near 24k from rear tyres - more like 14k and that was not driving like a complete lunatic.

I have the 330d M-Sport manual (56 plate). I am very happy with the driving experience and the immediate responsiveness that you get compared to any auto box.
I average 40 mpg. I do a lot of full on driving on country roads interspersed with long motorway trips up North. I think that I'd getting about 47mpg on the long trips (sticking to an indicated 80-85 on the motorways) and about 34mpg on the country roads. I have had the car nearly two years - a time when I always get itchy feet wanting a change, but I have no idea what I would replace it with that would do such a good job at what I need the car for. Your newer car should be more economical than my 2006 car. |

I'd forget about the TV.
I loved having a sunroof in my coupe and my wifes X3 has the panoramic sunroof which is amazing. In a saloon you just get the normal sunroof which at £870 is bloody steep IMO. Great if you can squeeze it into your budget but not the end of the world if not. For £235 the lumbar support is good. Will there be another regular driver?? The electric/memory seats are obviously convenient but at £910, again expensive, so maybe the part electric would be worth considering at £380 but I'm not sure what this option actually offered (surely the memory option doesn't cost £530!!!). Worth a look though unless it's just you driving the car. Problem is with the spec sheet is that you can just go on forever and reach some horrendous levels so there comes a point where you have to draw the line (the side & rear electric blinds are great if you have little ones ).

Ok so TV is crossed off the list. Prob an extravagance too far. But given I would've been prepared to spec that I guess I can definitely justify the lumbar supports. I'm going to do a bit of research on the memory seats as I agree that the memory can't be £500 ! will report back.
Don't need the blinds. Already got the sun protection glass at the back and if I ever need blinds I'll get them in Halfords much cheaper. Same reason I didn't get the ski bag - can prob get one on eBay for much less. That reminds me, I've got the folding rear seats specced at the mo. Does anyone actually use them. I've had them on all the cars I've had and the only one I've ever had the seats down on was the VXR Astra as it was the only way to get clubs in. And to me they just feel like something that might start to rattle one day! Question, if you don't get folding seats, does the armrest still give access to the boot ie to enable a ski bag to come through? Also, are there any golfers? Can you actually get a set across the boot using the cut-outs? In the Audi I had to put them diagonally across which wasn't great going away for the weekend with other luggage. BMW assured me you can. Can anyone verify for me please? Sorry guys the questions will stop on about 12 weeks! Can't wait to get some pics up! |

Oh also. I'm going to go and have a play with the adaptive cruise control. An excellent suggestion! I think that is a must have as I do get annoyed continuously messing around on motorways. You might as well just drive the car! And going forward, it's quite a new feature on lots of cars and so in 3 years it'll be more 'standard'.
