Exclamation iPod (OEM MOST ipod interface) Report after 1 day

I've had the MOST iPod Interface in my car now for about a day and it's all it's cracked up to me and more. Here are a few Fotos.

One comment: the amount of information on the iDrive screen is great!

Nice. After reading your latest masterpiece, and the blurb about the new iPod integration, I'm less inclined to partake. Sounds like BMW has once again raced a technology to 85% completion and then walked away from it - while insisting they receive a premium price for it.

I'll probably wait for two things: 1) for them to finish what they started and make the menu options more than "CD01, CD02, etc." and; 2) for it to become a factory install option. Maybe then I'll put it in my next E9x.

What I have found out after 24 h is that the CD1 CD2 labels don't matter. Yes, it would be better if it said Album, Genre, etc., but in actual usage, it doesn't really impact the driver.

The most important thing is that you can query the entire iPod from the car and that the connection is integrated.

Room for improvement - sure! But this is nice.

Okay... maybe. But sounds like they are going to rape us for about $500 installed. I could hire a cellist to play in the back seat for that!

Yes, how much, and is it already available? My slow dealer still doesn't know about it.

Functionality is ultimately the same. Of course you control it through the MID, not iDrive and there´s less real estate for display and no iDrive haptic controller to speed up clicking.

CD02 = Artists
CD03 = Albums
CD04 = Genre
CD05 = Podcasts
CD06 = Random 500 tracks

Can you comment on the sound quality of the interface? We had a discussion on e90 previously about the fact that the connection between the iPod and the car is analog, meaning a loss in sound quality. On Logic 7, is there an appreciable difference in sound quality between a file on the iPod and a file on a CD? (Assuming, of course, that both files are identical and encoded at the same bitrate.)

As far as something else being more reasonable priced as there are aftermarket products coming out all the time and they don't have to be Apple. I still don't have the title for regular cd's on display so doesn't bother me. Just seems too pricey for such little added feature. Probably different for those that have the I-drive.

Pretty much. You basically scroll and click and scroll and press.

The quality is excellent (and I am very critical of sound quality, as I am a pianist and spend a lot of time listening to music). The connection is analog because that´s how Apple does the output - BMW didn´t have a choice in that.

Regarding an A B comparison, I plan to do that tomorrow. I don´t foresee much difference however.

There are no aftermarket products out for the E90 (or any MOST BMW, for that matter) and there probably won´t be too much out there in the future.

I don´t see the iPod Interface as a "little added feature". This allows you to interconnect your iPod and its 40 G or 60 G music library directly with one plug that also charges it, and control the iPod through the car´s systems.

iDrive does add more info on screen but you can still do a lot with the MID.

Couple quick things you could test for me? When the car turns off it turns the iPod off right?

I also listen to audio books on my iPod all the time so I have single tracks on the iPod that are 8+ hours. If you are listening to a track and you turn off the car or pause the track and turn the car off when you come back to that track does it save where you left off like the iPod does normally? I would hate to have to seek through 8 hours to find where I left off. Thanks for the info on this I cant wait for it.

After looking at the video from the ipodyourbmw site, it looks like this is a very nice iPod integration for our cars. I just hope that the interface cable doesn't cost more than the iPod itself.

It will. I was quoted $444 installed by my dealer here in No. Cal. I'm going for it, though, and the timing should be just right since my car is in production this week, due mid to late July!:rocks:

Yeah, its hard to justify the price when the connector to attach a $300 dollar electrical device to a $40K car cost $500 (more than the ipod!)
